Seated next to Henry Kissinger in the White House’s Oval Office on Wednesday, President Donald Trump made brief comments regarding his recent termination of James Comey from the FBI’s directorship:
“We have Henry Kissinger with us. He’s been a friend of mine for a long time,” said Trump.
Asked why he fired Comey, Trump replied, “Because he wasn’t doing a good job. Very simply, he was not doing a good job.”

Trump is expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov later in the day.
Left-wing news media Democrats quickly criticized the president’s choice to be seated with Kissinger and meet with Lavrov, framing the president’s firing of Comey as somehow reminiscent of Richard Nixon’s Watergate scandal:
