Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) is threatening to shut down the government over immigration — the exact opposite of what he said would be decent policy in 2013.
The government is facing a potential shutdown over spending, which is centered primarily around Democrats demanding protections for approximately 800,000 illegal aliens, The Washington Times reported. Republicans in the House passed a short-term continuing resolution to avoid the closing the government, but it still needs to pass the Senate — and Democrats are filibustering it.
In 2013, with a potential shutdown looming, Schumer said while appearing on ABC News that the Democrats “believe strongly in immigration reform. We could say, ‘we’re shutting down the government, we’re not gonna raise the debt ceiling, until you pass immigration reform.’ It would be governmental chaos.”

In another clip from 2013, Schumer said that shutting down the government was “the politics of idiocy, of confrontation, of paralysis.”
