WATCH: Rapper Killer Mike Explains Why He Wouldn’t Let His Kids Walk Out For Gun Control

In a recent interview with Colion Noir for NRATV, rapper Killer Mike said he told his kids before National Walkout Day, “If you walk out that school, walk out my house.”

The rapper — who, as Rolling Stone points out, generally backs progressive causes and supported Bernie Sanders in 2016 — made the comment in a discussion about the importance of gun rights amid the escalating campaign for gun control, including the National Walkout Day and the March For Our Lives demonstrations. Activists’ vilification of those who support the Second Amendment, he said, is “unfair,” stressing that he is so passionate about gun ownership because he wants the same thing activists say they want: to better protect innocent people.

“I told my kids on the school walkout: ‘I love you. If you walk out that school, walk out my house,'” Killer Mike told Noir in reference to the nationwide pro-gun control demonstration led by Parkland student activists. “We are a gun-owning family. We are a family where my sister farms. We are a family where we’ll fish, we’ll hunt. But we are not a family that jumps on every single thing an ally of ours does because some stuff we just don’t agree with.”

The rapper concisely summed up the reason he’s so adamant about protecting the right to own a gun. “Very simply,” he said, “I’m African-American. You know, 54 years out of apartheid. I’m very pro-Second Amendment. This is why.”

The rapper also partly defended NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, who was labeled a “murderer” at CNN’s town hall with Parkland students and gun control activists. While he noted that he doesn’t agree with everything she says, he said Loesch made a very “sad” but “dead on” statement about how race has played into the response to Parkland.

“There was something that the woman who is the NRA spokesperson said and everybody just kinda lost it,” he said. “Dana says that the tears of white mothers are like ratings. And that’s so true and it was so sad to hear her acknowledge it, but it’s true, and black people know it’s true — because black people say it…”

“You’re not woke!” he said of those who continue to be the “lackey” for the progressive gun control agenda. “You are a lackey of the progressive movement because you have never disagreed with the people who tell you what to do,” he said.

Noir has made similar points about the race aspect of the gun control movement. The host recently posted a blistering response to Parkland activist David Hogg saying he was going to use his “white privilege” to protect the lives of black people by promoting gun control.

Noir has been criticized recently by several left-leaning media outlets for “taunting” Parkland student activists by saying he wishes that a hero with a gun, like resource officer Blaine Gaskill, had been at the school to defend them. If someone had stepped up, said Noir, no one would know the activists’ names because the media would have ignored the story, like they did the situation in Maryland on Tuesday.

“To all the kids from Parkland getting ready to use your First Amendment to attack everyone else’s Second Amendment at your march on Saturday, I wish a hero like Blaine Gaskill had been at Marjory Douglas High School last month because your classmates would still be alive and no one would know your names, because the media would have completely and utterly ignored your story, the way they ignored his,” said Noir.
