WATCH: Ocasio-Cortez States That ‘Soccer Moms With Two Vans’ Are A Thing Of The Past

On Tuesday, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explained that American soccer moms with two vans, were, like, so over.

This comment came in the context of falsely explaining that the American upper middle class — the fastest growing class in America, in reality — had disappeared (presumably in a chemical fire or something). She stated:

What I honestly think that it is is that we have not had a party that has been investing in its own future. So we have people who are constantly fundraising for their own re-election. The average age of a House Democrat right now is 65 years old. … Their heyday was in the 1990s when you know, like, kids had like, furbies, and like, parents, you had like soccer moms had, like, two vans, and like … that’s not America anymore.

This sort of dismissive language with regard to soccer moms is vaguely reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s statements that she could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas back in 1992.

But that’s the future of the Democratic Party: a party that sees such things as hackneyed and lost in the mists of time. In reality, of course, soccer moms aren’t driving minivans — they’re driving SUVs. And their numbers are increasing:

According to the Census, 10.6 million children under 15 in two-parent homes were being raised by stay-at-home moms, a 13 percent increase from the previous decade.

But the Democratic Party has decided to build its base around women like Ocasio-Cortez rather than soccer moms. They could find out the hard way just how unproductive that line of politics is likely to be.
