MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt got shot down on Sunday during an interview with a Hispanic Republican congressional candidate after she brought up President Donald Trump’s “animal” remark from last week and continued to falsely suggest that he was referring to all illegal immigrants.
“The president earlier this week referred to some immigrants and drug dealers as well as ‘animals,’ not as people,” Hunt said to Lea Marquez Peterson, the GOP Candidate for Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Do you think that rhetoric is racist?” Hunt asked.
“There’s certainly been some comments I’ve been concerned about in the past with President Trump, however this comment most recently I think was referring to the gang members that are coming from Mexico that are committing horrendous acts here in the United States,” Peterson responded.
“So I think calling them animals is not something that is beyond that point, so I think in terms of what he said most recently, I don’t believe it was racist,” Peterson continued.
