Democratic Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel slammed Democrats on Thursday over their 2020 enthusiasm for failed Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke, saying, “You don’t promote a loser.”

“If Beto O’Rourke wants to go and run for president, God bless him,” Emanuel said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” in a video segment reported on by the Free Beacon.

Sen. Ted Cruz (D-TX) won re-election over O’Rourke in November despite the media’s non-stop promotion of O’Rourke as they tried to turn Texas blue.

“He should put his hat in and make his case,” Emanuel continued. “But he lost. You don’t promote a loser to the top of the party.”

One of the issues that plagued O’Rourke was his criminal history involving a 1998 arrest for drunk driving after new information was revealed about it during the campaign, despite much of it already being public knowledge for many years. The Daily Wire reported in August:

The Houston Chronicle reported on Friday that newly-obtained police reports alleged “two elements of the incident that have been overlooked: that there was a crash involved, and that O’Rourke allegedly attempted to flee.”

A reporter who witnessed the crash said that he observed O’Rourke traveling at a “high rate of speed” in a 75-mph zone as O’Rourke then “lost control of the vehicle and struck a truck.”

O’Rourke then reportedly attempted to flee the scene of the crash after hitting someone, but the reporter was there to stop him from getting away.

O’Rourke repeatedly lied about trying to flee the scene of the crime during the campaign which drew the attention of The Washington Post, which fact-checked his claim and deemed he was a liar.

O’Rourke’s campaign was later rocked by scandal after James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas released an undercover sting video just days before the election that appeared to show “campaign staffers for Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke ‘illegally using campaign resources to buy supplies and help transport Honduran aliens.'”

“The Beto O’Rourke campaign for senate is acknowledging several staffers used campaign funds to buy food, water and supplies for Central American migrants released in Downtown El Paso,” KVIA reported.

A Project Veritas Action attorney who reviewed the footage released the following statement:

The material Project Veritas Action Fund captured shows campaign workers covering up the true nature of spending of campaign funds and intentionally misreporting them. This violates the FEC’s rules against personal use and misreporting. It also violates Section 1001, making a false statement to the federal government. The FEC violations impose civil penalties, including fines of up to $10,000 or 200 percent of the funds involved. Violations of Section 1001 are criminal and include imprisonment of up to five years.
