A Harvard University student was surrounded, pushed, and jeered by pro-Palestinian protesters after he began filming their public demonstration against Israel’s war on Hamas.

Hundreds of protesters at Harvard staged a “die-in” last month, laying on the ground in protest of Israel’s prosecution of its war against the terror group Hamas, according to the New York Post. The protesters lay flat in memory of Palestinians killed in the middle of the conflict, largely a result of Hamas hiding military targets in civilian areas. In at least one incident, a Palestinian rocket fired at Israel fell short and landed near a Gaza hospital.

The Harvard Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC) released a statement Sunday denying alleged harassment of the student who filmed the protest.

“As hundreds of people were laying on the ground, grieving the thousands of Palestinians killed, an individual unaffiliated with the die-in aggressively began stepping over protesters, recording their faces as they laid in a vulnerable position,” the statement said.

“Concerned for safety, the marshals approached and repeatedly asked him to exit,” the statement continued. The marshals were not affiliated with law enforcement, but volunteers who were participating in the protest.

“When the individual refused, the marshals lifted their keffiyehs to block recording. He did not comply and repeatedly attempted to evade the marshals, crashing into their torsos and continuing to record demonstrators,” the statement said.

Video of the incident shows the student who filmed the protesters surrounded by “marshals” yelling, “shame, shame, shame.”

The PSC statement said the protesters used “nonviolent, de-escalatory” tactics to move the student away.

“They chanted the word ‘shame’ to deter the individual from harming vulnerable protesters and to block him from further recording,” the statement says.

Other video of the incident shows the student walking among the protesters, filming them.

Harvard security, though present at the protest, did not intervene in the incident on behalf of the protesters or the student who was surrounded, the PSC said.
