CAMBRIDGE — An anti-Israel protest at Harvard University was disrupted by a group of South Korean Christians who blasted worship music and loudly defended Israel as the university students chanted “from the river to the sea.”

“What is happening at Harvard right now is something that is not normal,” the group’s pastor Joseph Kim said through a translator on a blaring microphone next to the anti-Israel protest. “South Korea supports Israel.”

Kim’s group, the Newsong Worship Teens, arrived at the Thursday protest organized by several anti-Israel groups and disrupted their speeches with both music and speeches of their own. “Harvard is broken down, and so liberal,” Kim told The Daily Wire through a translator. “So we’re here to actually heal that.”

Harvard has been under mounting criticism for its response to Hamas’ massacre, including a lawsuit being filed by Jewish students that accuse the school of enabling anti-Semitism and selectively enforcing its policies to avoid protecting Jewish students from harassment.

Protestors chanted “from the river to the sea,” a phrase calling for the eradication of Israel. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) questioned former Harvard president Claudine Gay before Congress about the use of this chant on campus, before she resigned from her position amid the firestorm over her failure to stand up to anti-Semitism at the university.

“These students are actually brainwashed, and they’re actually supporting that kind of violence,” Kim said. “It’s so sad because they are in these universities and supporting something that they shouldn’t be.”

Kim’s group said they are activists to raise awareness about the tyrannical North Korean regime, and were surprised to see American college students standing on the same side as the supporters of their northern unfriendly neighbor.

“The country that has no freedom at all, Hamas in Palestine actually supports,” Kim said before the crowd. “Russia, China, and Iran support North Korea as well. And in North Korea, that country, there is no happiness or freedom at all.”

The group posted footage of their demonstration on their YouTube channel with about 158,000 subscribers.

The anti-Israel demonstration was marketed as an event to call for a ceasefire and divestment, and had about 150 students — a smaller turnout than the protests immediately following Hamas’ massacre of Israeli civilians on October 7.

“There is no ‘calm’ in Gaza, so there can be no ‘calm’ on campus,” one of the groups posted to Instagram with an advertisement for the event. “Come this Thursday to prove the movement for a Free Palestine is not over.”

The event included several student speakers and Harvard Medical School assistant professor Nasrien E. Ibrahim.

“We call on Harvard to reject funding from donors attempting to control or censor on campus speech or course curriculum,” she said. “We also call on Harvard to stop accepting donations conditioned upon the suppression of ideas and expression on campus.”

One of the student speakers said she agreed with megadonor Ken Griffin, who has donated over $500 million to the university, deciding to cease donations over the school producing “whiny snowflakes.”

“I agree with Ken Griffin, Zionist students are whiny snowflakes,” the student said, detracting from Griffin’s opposition to the school’s DEI agenda.
