New York Jets fans joined a police officer in singing the national anthem before Sundayโ€™s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

NYPD Officer Brianna Fernandez led the song and encouraged the crowd at MetLife Stadium to sing along on the 21st anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The song concluded with loud applause as Americans sought to โ€œnever forgetโ€ the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

The opening also included a moment of silence to remember the death of the United Kingdomโ€™s Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that occurred on Thursday. The Queen led for more than 70 years, starting in 1952 until her passing at the age of 96.

The events are among many ceremonies taking place on Sunday to commemorate 9/11.

The National September 11 Memorial and Museum hosted an annual ceremony in New York City. The Tribute in Light, NYC Fire Museum and Memorial Service, and Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Prayer Service are among other events in the New York area.

President Joe Biden also marked the day with a tribute on social media, as well as a speech from the Pentagon.

โ€œWhat was destroyed, we have repaired. What was threatened, we fortified. What was attacked, the indomitable spirit, has never, ever wavered,โ€ the president said during his remarks.

โ€œWe have an obligation, a duty, a responsibility, to defend, preserve and protect our democracy. The very democracy that guarantees the rights of freedom that those terrorists on 9/11 sought to bury in the burning fire and smoke and ash,โ€ Biden added.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was among the many lawmakers commemorating 9/11.

โ€œToday, on the somber anniversary of the most horrific terrorist attack in the history of the United States, I stand with millions of Americans in memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost. We must never forget the victims of the acts of hate and mass murder committed that day by radical Islamic terrorists. On this day, 21 years later, let us remember not only the act of evil, and the lives lost, but also the unity of our country as we resolved to stand together in the face of adversity, as one nation,โ€ Cruz shared.

โ€œI want to take this opportunity to thank all of our servicemen and women, first responders, and other Americans who answered the call of duty to defend our great nation in the wake of those attacks,โ€ the senator added. โ€œIt is because of your courageous sacrifices that our country remains a beacon of hope and freedom to this day. I will never forget. We will never forget. May God bless our men and women in uniform, and may God bless the United States of America.โ€
