Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee refused to answer MSNBC host Craig Melvin on Thursday when he asked her if Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) should resign after being accused by multiple women of sexual harassment and other forms of sexual misconduct.
Melvin asked Jackson Lee multiple times about whether Conyers should resign; she responded with talking points and stuttering before she ultimately went on a rant about President Donald Trump’s “anti-Muslim hatred videos.”
“I believe the decision to go or come will be the decision of that member,” Jackson Lee told Melvin. “As I understand it, Mr. Conyers is with his family. I’m praying for them. I’m praying for the women, and I’m praying for them to make their decision. But all those decisions are usually at the behest of the member and I expect that to be the case here.”
After failing to get an answer out of Jackson Lee on whether Conyers should resign, Melvin then pressed her on whether this hurts the Democrats’ claim that they are the “party of women.”
Jackson Lee responded by saying no, because “the story is not yet concluded,” then launching into a rant about how offensive the allegations about Roy Moore are to her and how upset she is about Trump’s re-tweets of videos about Muslims.
