On Tuesday, CNN rushed to sensationalize a school shooting in Maryland by interviewing a student inside the school while the school was on lockdown.
CNN host John Berman interrupted a segment to bring the student, who was on the phone while locked inside a classroom, onto the broadcast. Berman started by botching the kid’s name, calling him Matthew Taggert.
“That’s my teacher’s name. My name is Jonathan,” the student responded.
Jonathan said he was in his math class when the shooting happened and that they had been on lockdown for approximately 30 minutes. Jonathan added that he heard that “about seven” people had been shot and that there was at least one fatality.
As The Daily Caller noted, CNN rushed to sensationalize the shooting “without confirming his statements with local police, the FBI or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.”
Only two students, not including the shooter, were shot, while the only confirmed death was the death of the shooter who died after a school resource officer shot him.
