Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced on Monday that the nation’s capital will be dropping its COVID-19 vaccine requirement starting Tuesday, February 15, as well dropping its indoor mask mandate on Tuesday, March 1.
“Beginning February 15, 2022, indoor venues will no longer be required to verify that patrons are vaccinated,” the mayor tweeted. “Businesses may choose to keep vaccination requirements in place.”

Bowser continued pushing the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters, claiming, “It’s critical that all DC residents get their booster shot. Unvaccinated individuals are 97x more likely to die from COVID-19 compared to those who are boosted.”

The impetus behind the change in COVID-19 precautions seems to be the drop in COVID-19 cases after the Omicron wave of the virus hit the country over the past month.
“COVID-19 cases have dropped by more than 90%, and there has been a 95% reduction in hospitalizations since the height of Omicron,” Bowser added.

As The Daily Wire previously reported, in December, Bowser announced a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for nearly everything indoors:
Washington, D.C.’s Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday that individuals ages 12 and up will be required to show proof of vaccination — meaning at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine — starting January 15, 2022.
In response, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) called on Congress to re-assert its constitutional right to the exclusive jurisdiction over the nation’s capital while others pointed out how the vaccine will impact D.C. citizens and business owners.
Individuals will be required to prove their vaccination status by either an original or copy-photo of their vaccine card or a digital passport at restaurants, bars, nightclubs, indoor cultural and entertainment facilities, indoor exercise and recreational establishments, and indoor event and meeting establishments.
Likewise, beginning March 1, 2022, all eligible students in D.C. will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
