Warren Echoes Stacey Abrams: She’s The ‘Rightful Governor Of Georgia’

As one of the numerous Democratic candidates speaking at Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference, and desperate to separate herself from the pack, Sen. Elizabeth Warren echoed the claims of former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams that she had been cheated out of victory last November in her race against now-Gov. Brian Kemp.

Warren stated:

The people in Congress and the White House, frankly, think they can ignore what voters want. They plan to keep enough people away from the polls that they can stay in power. They are working hard to shut down our democracy. Just last year the republicans in North Carolina’s ninth congressional district threw enough votes in the trash to rig an election.

Massive voter suppression prevented Stacy Abrams from becoming the rightful governor of Georgia. They’ll fight anyone who tries to stand up and push back. They’ll do whatever it takes to stop a full and fair count because they know that there’s more that unites us than divides us. They know that a durable majority of Americans believe in the promise of America and they know that if all the votes are counted, we will win every time.

So what’s our job? Our job is to fight back. We need a constitutional amendment establishing a nationally recognized right to vote and a right to get that vote counted.

At the end of February, Warren wrote on her Facebook page, “Voter suppression is real – just look at the corruption in Georgia during the 2018 election. We need to overturn every last voter suppression law that keeps people of color from voting, and we need a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to vote for everyone.”

As The Daily Wire reported, on Wednesday, Abrams, speaking at the National Action Network Conference, claimed that she had won her race for governor in November, stating, “We had this little election back in 2018. And despite the final tally and the inauguration and the situation we find ourselves in, I do have a very affirmative statement to make: We won.”

She added, “I am not the governor of Georgia, remember I told you about my opponent? You see, not only was he the Secretary of State, he was also the architect of voter suppression. We can work as hard as we want, we can fight rights, but if you’re fighting against the system that is designed to oppress you, sometimes you got to fight a little bit longer than you think. On November 6, I said from the podium that we were going to not declare anything until every vote is counted, and on November 16, I decided to acknowledge the states of the election but I refused to concede. Because here’s the thing concession means to say something is right and true and proper.”

Abrams concluded, “I’m a good lawyer, and I understand that the law of the land said that Brian Kemp became governor that day and I acknowledge that, but you can’t trick me into saying it was right. You can’t shame me into pretending what happened should have happened.”

Kemp beat Abrams by 54,723 votes.
