The so-called “mom of the year” is speaking out after days of online discourse about her husband, saying it’s time to defend him from the online mob.

“Before you decide what our marriage looks like, I would like you to hear from the woman you’re defending,” she wrote in part. “Ramses is an amazing husband and an even better father … A conversation the audience couldn’t hear became the basis for millions of judgments about that life.”

A video clip of the couple went viral after announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper highlighted their interaction during the San Francisco Giants game against the Minnesota Twins on September 22. The woman, who later identified herself as Erika Alvarez, can be seen juggling a baby in a carrier and food as she returned to her seat. Keyboard warriors were furious that her husband, Ramses, immediately began eating and didn’t help with the items she was carrying.

This was exacerbated by the commentary provided by Krukow and Kuiper. The pair called Erika “mom of the year,” and the “definition of a multitasking mother” as cameras showed the interaction unfolding. “Did I just hear that guy say, ‘Did you forget something?’” they asked incredulously. “She’ll be the last one to eat, too.”

“She just said to that lady, I’m gonna smack him right in the nose,” the commentary went on.

Erika posted a lengthy explanation on Substack on Friday, saying her husband has been receiving “deeply disturbing” messages from strangers accusing him of being a deadbeat.

She insists it’s not true, explaining that she and her husband “initially thought the broadcast was funny,” but then changed their minds after “people on the internet treated the announcers’ imaginary narration as evidence of our unequal relationship.”

Erika explained what happened from her vantage point.

“Around the fifth inning, I went to use the restroom. Ramses offered to take Anastasia off my hands. I wanted to keep her. San Francisco night games get chilly, and … her body heat keeps you warm in the carrier,” she wrote.

“While I was away, I texted Ramses a photo of the food menu in the Field Club. I thought since I was passing by, I might as well grab something for us. He said he’d have whatever had the shortest line.” The post included screenshots of those messages.

“I returned with brisket sandwiches and loaded fries. He moved my jacket to clear my seat, greeted our smiling daughter, and asked whether I wanted to eat first … I told him to go ahead,” Erika went on. “I had eaten before we left for the game, and I knew he hadn’t had a full meal all day.”

The mother then said her husband “offered to take the containers off my lap, but I told him I was fine holding my food and the nachos.” She added that he also offered to feed her, but she told him to “enjoy” the food instead.

Alvarez said the messages left her in tears, while her husband stayed composed and backed her throughout.

“He knows who he is and doesn’t let strangers define his relationship with us. He’s our family’s rock, and it’s one of the reasons I married him,” Erika wrote.

The explainer post wasn’t enough to quiet the online discourse, with many arguing over her phrasing and insisting that she was being mistreated and didn’t know it.

“Here’s the thing. She got the food, came back, and he immediately took his food, started digging in and didn’t even help her with ANYTHING. It’s not about whether or not she’s unhappy, it’s his total lack of consideration,” one X commenter wrote.

“When you love someone who is clearly overworked, you offer assistance without being asked.  She was clearly dealing with a lot & instead of him offering assistance, he just ate and left all the responsibility up to her. It’s not loving,” another agreed.

But just as many people were defending the couple as the argument over other people’s private lives raged on.

“It’s always the unhappy single women judging how a happy couple should function,” one person observed.

“I’m pretty sure most people making negative comments are doing so from a state of unhappiness in their own lives. They’re likely in a sh*tty situation, so they are mocking someone else from a place of their own hurting,” another commenter agreed.

“People expressing strong opinions on two complete strangers they know absolutely nothing about will never not be bizarre to me,” echoed a third.
