Two days after an alleged gang rape, the Cornell 7 accuser told one of the men she now accuses of raping her that she loved him and another accused man, described the sexual activity as “not illegal,” and wrote, “our body our choice.”
The accuser, identified only as Jane Doe, expressed annoyance to Jonathan Newell that sorority girls were talking about her promiscuity after the encounter, but reassured Newell that what happened that night was “not illegal” and they had no reason to feel ashamed.
While some messages have already been released, the fuller exchange TMZ reported provides additional context for Doe’s account of the night.
“I just wanted to apologize for how things went down the other night,” Newell wrote, adding that he and Matthew Ingalls— another man Doe has accused of rape — should have “shut it down and kick people out before it got way out of hand.”
Ingalls alleges Doe sexually assaulted him and that he was too intoxicated to consent that night. Doe’s own account says Ingalls passed out multiple times during the sexual activity.
“You’re an amazing person and I genuinely hope ur not catching as much heat from this as we are,” Newell added. “We’ve been shutting down any stories we’ve heard but again I’m so so sorry.”
“Aw Jonathan I really appreciate this text,” Doe responded. “I think we were all way [too] f*cking drunk and high.”
“I’m getting a little heat (Pi Phi girls [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] can’t get my name out of their mouth) but that’s to be expected,” Doe continued. “But at the end of the day none (sic) of the sexual stuff was illegal and honestly I really liked being with you and Matt. So anything anyone has to say about the [gang bang] is out of their jurisdiction.”
“I don’t think we should feel any shame for the part. Our body our choice asf (as f*ck),” Doe said.
In another message, Doe wrote, “If you have nay regrets or anything you want to talk about I am always here to talk about it cause I that was a lot. I really do love u and Matt and I promise I won’t get quiet and weird w u like I did last time <4.”
Doe has accused the seven men of being involved in the alleged sexual assault, which she says occurred while she was incapacitated after allegedly being drugged with ketamine. The men have denied the allegations and maintain their innocence.
Additional accounts of the encounter have emerged from Cornell’s investigation. As highlighted by The Daily Wire on Wednesday, two male students accused by Doe separately recalled the accuser getting out of bed and doing “bodybuilder” poses, or “flexing her muscles,” after other students had ingested ketamine off her chest during the encounter.
Other texts reported by The New York Times show that Doe’s account changed in the weeks that followed. After the fraternity uninvited her from its Halloween party, she accused the men of “covering [their] asses.” Days later, she wrote that “90%” of what happened was not consensual.
