D.C. Shooting At Funeral Home

One man is dead and three others have been injured after a shooting outside a funeral home in Washington, D.C. Police say the shooting happened this afternoon outside the Stewart Funeral Home in Northeast Washington. No details were immediately released about the suspected shooter, but police urged those in the area to look out for a green vehicle fleeing the scene. During a press conference, D.C.’s Police Chief Robert Contee hinted this could be a targeted attack.

Classified Docs Update

The Biden administration is warning journalists not to look into the alleged leaked classified documents regarding U.S. foreign policy and intelligence operations — claiming that doing so could undermine national security.

“Without confirming the validity of the documents, this is information that has no business in the public domain. … It has no business, if you don’t mind me saying it, on the front pages of newspapers or on television,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said. “It is not intended for public consumption, and it should not be out there.”

Among those documents are reports that U.S. ally Egypt was allegedly considering sending 40,000 rockets to Russia and that the U.S. was spying on several of its allies, including Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Ousted Tennessee Rep. Reinstated

One of the two Tennessee State Representatives ousted for participating in the storming of the Tennessee State House has been re-appointed to his seat. Daily Wire Reporter Brandon Drey joined Afternoon Update for more:

DREY: State Representative Justin Jones (D-Nashville) was re-appointed to his seat by a unanimous vote of the Nashville Metropolitan Council on Monday. The Council voted to suspend a procedural rule that prevents an individual from being nominated and appointed to the seat in the same meeting. The Council then voted unanimously, 36-0, to appoint Jones back to the seat. Jones will now serve as interim Rep. for the 52nd legislative district until a special election is held at a date to be determined. Jones is eligible for re-election.

San Francisco Flagship Whole Foods Store Closes Due To Crime

A Whole Foods location in downtown San Francisco closed this week over high crime and unsafe conditions for employees. Daily Wire reporter Amanda Prestigiacomo has details:

Prestigiacomo: The number of arrests in San Francisco has fallen significantly over the past three years amid calls from prominent officials, including San Francisco Democratic Mayor London Breed, to defund law enforcement. In turn, crime has skyrocketed. Grocery store chain Whole Foods announced Tuesday it will shutter its location at Trinity Place at Eighth and Market Streets over rampant drug use outside the store. A spokesperson for Whole Foods confirmed the location was closing “for the time being,” adding that the company will evaluate a reopening if they feel they can “ensure the safety of their team members in the store.” The downtown portion of San Francisco has suffered from declining foot traffic in the years since government lockdowns sequestered employees in their homes and apartments.

Trump Returning To New York For More Legal Drama

Former President Trump is returning to New York this week for another probe into his dealings by a Democratic prosecutor.

Trump is due back in New York Thursday to be deposed in a $250 million civil suit brought by state Attorney General Letitia James. The appearance comes just one week after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg formally charged Trump in connection with the alleged Stormy Daniels “hush money” payments.

The judge in the case has said it is “complex, but it is not complicated,” explaining that, “essentially, it all boils down to whether (Trump’s) statements of financial interest are true or false.” New York’s Attorney General claims Trump and others at his Trump Organization deceived lenders and insurance companies by inflating the value of his assets in order to get loans for his real estate and resort business, then undervaluing them for tax purposes.

James is seeking to recover more than $250 million in “ill-gotten gains” and to bar the Trumps from doing business in New York.

COVID Emergency Is Officially Over

President Biden officially terminated the national emergency over the COVID pandemic on Monday — that was three years after federal and state governments initially enacted a two-week order to “slow the spread” of the virus. Almost 200 House Democrats voted against ending the emergency declaration.
