Trump’s Running On A Battered Voice And Pure Grit, But Two States Want An Encore

“On Sunday, while you're all watching football, I'll be traveling in a very beautiful airplane to Iowa, to Kansas."

President Donald Trump joked Friday that his voice was operating at just 49.2% after what he described as 28 consecutive days of campaigning, as he prepared for two more rallies Sunday in Iowa and Kansas.

“Twenty-eight days in a row of this crap is a lot,” Trump said at a Florida rally, explaining that he had been asked to make last-minute trips to help two vulnerable GOP Senate candidates.

“My voice is about operating at about 49.2%, and then they called me in Iowa, and they called me in Kansas, and they said, ‘Sir, would it be possible to do a little rally of about 50,000 people each?’ And I said, ‘Does it matter?’ They said, ‘We just want to make sure that we win.'”

Trump’s comments came after the White House confirmed Friday that the rallies were back on, reversing an earlier decision to replace the planned appearances with remote campaign events. The president will campaign in both Kansas and Iowa while continuing a series of nearly 20 tele-rallies intended to reach voters across the country, The Daily Wire previously reported.

“Rallies are BACK ON! President Trump loves his supporters, and in addition to nearly 20 tele-rallies, he will hold back-to-back rallies in Kansas and Iowa on Sunday,” a source told the New York Post.

Trump’s Kansas appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT Sunday at Salina Regional Airport. The rally had originally been scheduled for Saturday at the same location. The Iowa rally will also take place Sunday, but has been moved from Dubuque to Cedar Rapids.

“And so on Sunday, while you’re all watching football, I’ll be traveling in a very beautiful airplane to Iowa, to Kansas,” Trump said Friday night.

The scheduling confusion prompted speculation about whether Trump was scaling back his demanding schedule after weeks of frequent rallies. Trump had headlined 25 rallies across 19 states during October, according to the AP. On Thursday, Trump lambasted a reporter’s suggestion that he had canceled the Kansas appearance because he was tired of traveling.

“You’re sick to ask that question. You are sick,” Trump told the reporter, adding, “I don’t feel I have to go to Kansas. I feel perfect. You are disgusting. Put yourself in shape. You look like hell.”

Trump also said Republican Sen. Roger Marshall was “doing very well” and predicted Republicans would have “a strong Tuesday night.”

Marshall is fighting for his political life in a race he never saw coming. Liberal Methodist pastor Adam Hamilton, the Democrat nominee, has mounted a polling lead in a state Republicans haven’t lost since 1932. The Daily Wire recently uncovered a 2018 video of Hamilton, a liberal Methodist pastor, urging his mostly white congregation to declare “black lives matter” and saying it’s difficult to preach against racism in rural America.

Still, Marshall appears flat-footed for a contest that’s breaking late in the Democrats’ direction.

“Months ago, the RNC was warned that Marshall was not taking the race seriously, Ryan Girdusky, a conservative political consultant, said. “They basically ignored all warnings, Marshall told them don’t invest in Kansas, he was fine. He never hired a professional campaign team for the re-elect.”
