President Donald Trump slammed partisan CNN reporter Jim Acosta during the White House Coronavirus Task Force press briefing on Friday over questions that he asked that Trump deemed to be “insulting to a lot of great people.”

“Mr. President, we hear from a lot of people who see these briefings as sort of happy talk briefings,” Acosta began. “You and some of the officials paint a rosy picture of what is happening around the country.”

Acosta continued, “If you look at some of these questions, Do we have enough masks? no; Do we have enough tests? no. Do we have enough PPE? No.”

“I think the answer is yes,” Trump fired back. “Who said no to that? You are saying no. But who said no? You said, do we have enough masks, yes. Do we have enough ventilators? Yes. Do we have enough hospital beds? Yes. We built 20,000 hospital beds.”

“These people have done an incredible job,” Trump later added. “This is not happy talk. Maybe it is happy talk for you. It is not happy talk for me. We are talking about death. We are talking about the greatest economy in the world, one day I have to close it off and we did the right thing because maybe it would have been 2 million who died instead of whatever that final number will be. … thousands of people have died.”

“There is nothing happy about it, Jim. This is sad talk,” Trump continued. “These are the saddest — these are the saddest news conferences that I have ever had. I don’t like doing them. You know why? Because I’m talking about death.”

After a few more minutes of back and forth, Trump, after praising the military and other federal agencies for the job they have done, fired back at Acosta, “You shouldn’t be asking that kind of a question.”

“Jim, honestly, I really don’t believe that you’re that bad of a guy,” Trump continued. “And when you ask a question like that it’s very insulting to a lot of great people.”

Online, there was the predictable reaction to Acosta’s antics during the press briefing.

James Woods tweeted: “Rule of good screenwriting: even the darkest tragedy must have a touch of humor. Watching the President b***h slap @acosta(🤡) all over the press room is a confection of pure sugar. #PinataJimAcosta”

Charlie Daniels wrote: “If you listened to Jim Acosta, oh forget it, nobody listens to Jim Acosta.”

Guy Benson wrote: “Acosta says these are ‘happy talk’ briefings. Just days ago, they were telling us about potentially 100-240k dead Americans. POTUS also said we should brace for ‘a hell of a bad two weeks,’ later adding the peaks would be ‘horrendous.'”

Stephen Miller wrote: “Thank god Jim Acosta is at these briefings. If not for Jim Acosta, we might not ever learn about pertinent information as it relates to Jim Acosta.”

Curtis Houck tweeted: “Jim @Acosta doesn’t really seem to want the American people to have hope. He and Jeffrey Zucker and his @CNN colleagues sure seem to want all of us to think we’re going to die.”
