President Donald Trump congratulated Brazil’s new right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday following his inauguration speech in which he announced Brazil’s “liberation from socialism, inverted values, the bloated state and political correctness.”

“Congratulations to President @JairBolsonaro who just made a great inauguration speech – the U.S.A. is with you!” Trump tweeted.

“Dear Mr. President @realDonalTrump, I truly appreciate your words of encouragement,” Bolsonaro replied. “Together, under God’s protection, we shall bring prosperity and progress to our people!”

Bolsonaro, who blew out his left-wing opponent in Brazil’s election, has been dubbed the “Trump of the Tropics,” as he is seen by many as a “no-nonsense leader who will drain the swamp and tackle the rampant violence plaguing the country.”

“We cannot continue flirting with communism,” Bolsonaro said following his victory. “We are going to change the destiny of Brazil.”

“I invite all of Congress to join me in the mission to restore and rebuild our homeland, liberating it from corruption, crime, economic irresponsibility and ideological traps,” Bolsonaro said after being sworn in.

“I will work tirelessly so that Brazil reaches its destiny,” Bolsonaro added. “My vow is to strengthen Brazil’s democracy.”

One of the big changes that Bolsonaro is reportedly making is loosening up Brazil’s leftist gun control laws, announcing “he will issue a decree immediately easing gun laws, and will work to ‘fight the Marxist trash’ he believes is being taught in classrooms.”

“By decree we intend to ensure possession of firearm to the citizen without criminal record, as well as make his registration definitive,” Bolsonaro tweeted, according to a translation provided on the social media platform.

“Bolsonaro plans to realign Brazil internationally, moving away from developing nation allies and closer to the policies of Western leaders, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump, who sent Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to his inauguration,” CNBC reported. “As a clear sign of that diplomatic shift, Bolsonaro plans to move the Brazilian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, breaking with Brazil’s traditional support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.”

“Wishing newly sworn-in Brazilian President @jairbolsonaro warm congratulations from the people of the United States,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted.
