President Donald Trump ripped the look of former President Barack Obama’s presidential library on Tuesday.

A reporter asked the president about it as Trump took questions in the Oval Office. Obama’s presidential library, estimated to cost roughly $850 million, is being constructed on Chicago’s South Side and has been criticized for its bulky obelisk-like appearance.

“It’s not too pretty,” said Trump. “He wanted only women and DEI to build it. Well? That’s what they got.”

Trump made an example of his own experience building in Chicago and offered tips to the former president.

“I built a great building in Chicago, as you know, a big, beautiful building, one of the tallest buildings in the country, and we got it built very quickly, very well, and we used the construction workers of Chicago. They’re great workers. They’re great construction people. And I suggest that you get them involved,” said Trump.

“But they’re hundreds of millions of dollars over budget, and I think it stopped. I’m reading these terrible stories, but that’s the way our country was run under President Obama, too. Nobody knew it,” the president added.

The “Obamalisk,” as Obama’s presidential library has come to be known, is a blocky, granite tower that expands 225-feet into the air. The structure includes a community library and an NBA-sized basketball court, designed to be an active community center as much as a favorable view of Obama’s presidency.

To save space for the site’s sizable amenities, the library will not house physical copies of the records of Obama’s presidency. The physical records will be stored elsewhere in a site run by the National Archives. Digital copies of the records of Obama’s two terms in the Oval Office will be available to view, however.

The decision to digitize the records and store the physical copies off-site, an unusual decision for presidential libraries, has worried some historians. Historians are also concerned that research at the site will be overseen by Obama’s private foundation, the Obama Foundation, which will have offices in the building, rather than the National Archives.
