This is how badly it’s going for Donald Trump: a new poll conducted in Alaska shows a virtual tie between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The Midnight Sun reports that a poll conducted by Washington D.C. based Lake Research Group from October 11-13 found Trump gaining 37% of the vote and Clinton with 36%. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson gleaned 7% of the vote; Green party candidate Jill Stein got 3%.
When the same poll was conducted between August 9-14, Trump got 38%, Clinton 30%, Johnson 11%, and Stein 2%.
Last week the Alaska Dispatch News released a poll with Trump only up by 5.5 points; Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s internal polling showed Trump up only three points. And those polls were taken before the infamous “p***y” tape went public. videotape
Alaska Democratic Party Communications Director Jake Hamburg commented, “In every poll conducted over the last several weeks, one thing is consistent. The race is a toss-up. In light of the most recent revelations and Republican defections, things do not bode well for Donald Trump and the Alaska Republican Party with three weeks left to go until the elections.”
Alaska Republican Party Vice-Chair Rick Whitbeck was still confident, saying, “I think Alaska voters are going to reject (Clinton’s) campaign and what she stands for and what she has said about Alaska.”
Since Alaska was accepted into the Union in 1959, it has voted for the GOP presidential candidate every time except in 1964, when the state chose Lyndon Johnson over Barry Goldwater. In 2012, Mitt Romney defeated Barack Obama by 14 percentage points.
