President Donald Trump tore into anti-Semitic Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) on Friday after the far-left lawmaker was slammed most of the day by critics over the stunt she pulled with her trip to Israel.
Tlaib had planned on visiting Israel with fellow anti-Semitic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and planned on meeting with multiple groups that support terrorism against Israel, including one that has promoted neo-Nazi propaganda. Israel released a lengthy statement on Thursday documenting why they would not allow the two lawmakers to enter their country.
Tlaib turned around and asked Israeli Foreign Minister Ayre Deri for entry to the country, promising that she would not promote the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement while she was in the country.
As a sign of goodwill, Israel approved Tlaib’s request on a humanitarian basis which led to Tlaib refusing to go on the trip. Deri noted in response to Tlaib’s decision that “her hate for Israel overcomes her love for her grandmother.”
Trump responded to the developments late on Friday, tweeting: “Israel was very respectful & nice to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, allowing her permission to visit her “grandmother.” As soon as she was granted permission, she grandstanded & loudly proclaimed she would not visit Israel. Could this possibly have been a setup? Israel acted appropriately!”
“Rep. Tlaib wrote a letter to Israeli officials desperately wanting to visit her grandmother,” Trump continued. “Permission was quickly granted, whereupon Tlaib obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup. The only real winner here is Tlaib’s grandmother. She doesn’t have to see her now!”
Trump concluded his tweetstorm by writing: “Like it or not, Tlaib and Omar are fast becoming the face of the Democrat Party. Cortez (AOC) is fuming, not happy about this!”
Tlaib was on the receiving end of national scorn for most of the day over her antics.
The Federalist’s Sean Davis mocked Tlaib, tweeting: “TLAIB: Give me a visa so I can destroy your nation from within. ISRAEL: No. TLAIB: Ok. Can I at least have a humanitarian visa to visit my dear gamgam? Pretty please? She needs me. ISRAEL: Sure. But no Nazi crap while you’re here. TLAIB: Never mind.”
The Jerusalem Post’s Lahav Harkov tweeted: “She asked specifically for permission to visit her grandmother, saying she won’t promote boycotts. Then, after Israel said yes, she says she won’t visit if she can’t promote boycotts. So, it was just a stunt to prolong the news cycle of attacking Israel. Never mind, grandma.”
