Tracy Chapman will reportedly perform her hit song “Fast Car” alongside country star Luke Combs at the 2024 Grammy Awards, making it her first public performance in years.

The 33-year-old country singer’s cover of Chapman’s song blew up the charts in 2023, giving Combs a spot at the top of the music charts and the invite to perform the song at the upcoming award show, a source told Variety.

Chapman — who has only performed in public three times since the conclusion of her tour in 2009 — will hit the stage on Sunday to perform a duet with the country star who’s version of “Fast Car” made him a crossover hit over the summer, topping topping Billboard’s Radio Songs chart for four weeks, the outlet noted.

It made it to the number one spot on the adult pop and country charts for two weeks each, and No. 6 at Top 40 radio and No. 2 on the Hot 100, the outlet noted.

Last year, Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” and Combs’ “Fast Car” held the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart, marking the first time in more than 42 years that artists from the country genre have simultaneously held the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

That hasn’t happened since Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love a Rainy Night” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” topped the list in the week ending March 7, 1981, Billboard noted.

Combs also ended up earning his first ever track in the U.K. Top 40 with the Chapman cover.

In 1998, Chapman’s song peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 in the U.S. and hit the fifth spot in the U.K. two times, once in 1988 and then again 23 years later in 2011, the outlet noted.

The “Give Me One Reason” hitmaker has largely stayed out of the spotlight following the release of Combs’ version, other than to issue a statement of support for the country singer’s cover after he got permission to release the song as a single.

Last year, the Country Music Association honored Combs and Chapman with the Song of The Year Award for the success of “Fast Car.” Combs also won “Single of the Year” at the 2023 CMAs. Following the honor, Chapman released a statement that was read from the stage at the annual awards show.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t join you all tonight,” the statement read. “It’s truly an honor for my song to be newly recognized after 35 years of its debut. Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke and all of the fans of ‘Fast Car.'”
