National Guard troops will be deployed into Los Angeles to aid immigration enforcement as protests in the city escalate into attacks on federal immigration officers.

White House border czar Tom Homan appeared on Fox News on Saturday evening to hit back at local officials who have criticized federal immigration operations in the city. Homan said that National Guard troops would be in Los Angeles by Saturday night to aid immigration enforcement and tamp down unrest.

“This is about enforcing the law and, again, we’re not going to apologize for doing it. We’re stepping up,” Homan said. “We’re already ahead of the game. We’re already mobilizing. We’re going to bring National Guard in tonight. We’re going to continue doing our job. We’re going to push back on these people, and we’re going to enforce the law.”

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday evening that the federal government will step in if California officials can not contain the violence engulfing Los Angeles over immigration enforcement operations.

“If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can’t do their jobs, which everyone knows they can’t, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!” said Trump.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X that Trump signed a “Presidential Memorandum deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester.”

Anti-immigration enforcement protests in Los Angeles escalated into attacks against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officials on Saturday. Anti-immigration enforcement demonstrations erupted in the city as immigration agents arrested dozens of illegal aliens for deportation.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass spoke out against the federal immigration operations in a statement on Friday night.

“As Mayor of a proud city of immigrants, who contribute to our city in so many ways, I am deeply angered by what has taken place. These tactics sow terror in our communities and disrupt basic principles of safety in our city,” Bass posted to X. “We will not stand for this.”

FBI Director Kash Patel responded on X: “We will.”

Protesters in and around Los Angeles clashed with immigration officials on Friday and Saturday as federal officials warned protesters not to interfere with ongoing operations. Federal law enforcement in riot gear used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds that descended on some ICE personnel.

“A message to the LA rioters: you will not stop us or slow us down. @ICEgov will continue to enforce the law. And if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a post on X.

Protesters pelted one CBP vehicle with rocks, injuring at least one of the agents inside.

FBI officials are working to identify protesters who attacked the CBP agents.

“We are currently seeking information regarding the identity of the person(s) throwing rocks at vehicles conducting critical law enforcement operations. One of the perpetrators in this video is wearing a helmet, and we’re going to use our investigative tools to locate the individual,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on X. “I strongly suggest you turn yourself in, it’s only a matter of time.”
