Terrence Howard announced his second retirement from acting, saying this time is really “the end” for him.

The 53-year-old revealed the news during a recent appearance for the Peacock series “The Best Man: The Final Chapters,” Entertainment Tonight reported.

“This is the end for me. This is the end for me,” Howard explained, then referencing his co-stars in the upcoming series. “I don’t know if it’s the end for the rest of them.”

“I retired two years ago, for the most part,” he added. “I was done. … I asked Sidney Poitier 10 years ago does he want to do any more work, and he said, ‘Why would I spend my last 10 years doing an impersonation of myself?’ And that’s what I’ve gotten to.”

“I’ve gotten to the point where now I’ve given the very best that I have as an actor,” Howard continued. “Now I’m enjoying watching other new talent come around, and I don’t want to do an impersonation of myself … there’s some better actors out there that can do things that I was never able to do. So, I want to applaud them, I want to be excited about what they do.”

Three years ago, the actor said he was “running away” from acting following his role as Lucious Lyon on the FOX television series “Empire,” which ended in 2020.

“I’ve been playing pretend for forever,” Howard shared at the time. “[There’s] no need to play pretend anymore. I’ve done my time.”

Howard was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar in 2006 for his role in “Hustle & Flow.” He also appeared on the big screen in such movies as “Mr. Holland’s Opus,” “Dead Presidents,” “Who’s the Man,” and “Iron Man.”

He recently spoke about his appearance in the Marvel film after his role was recast with Don Cheadle, ET noted.

“Once Disney took it over, they started looking after money,” Howard said. “The very first thing they did was come in and shook everyone down and shook Gwyneth Paltrow down, try to shake my character down and my agent said ‘F-U’ and hung up.”
