Discussing celebrity weight loss is a fraught topic these days. But that didn’t stop Sunny Hostin of “The View” from voicing an unpopular opinion. While many media members insist it’s “body-shaming” to promote or celebrate weight loss in any way, the women on “The View” clearly weren’t aligned with their messaging.

It all started with the hosts discussing Rebel Wilson’s recent weight loss and the negative reactions she got from her team. As The Daily Wire previously reported, Wilson’s team worried she’d lose her “funny fat girl” status when she dropped the extra pounds.

The latest drama on “The View” began when Hostin made the bold claim that singers who lose weight sometimes experience a change in their voices, too. She brought up the Grammy-award winning singer Adele, who also made headlines recently for her dramatic change of appearance. But Goldberg refused to hear any of it.

“I do think, sometimes, when there’s a singer that loses weight, sometimes they lose their voice,” Hostin said in response to co-host Sara Haines mentioning Adele’s name.

“That is not true,” Goldberg said emphatically.

“I don’t know,” Hostin interjected. “Adele hasn’t, but sometimes it happens.”

To that, Goldberg started repeating, “That’s not true,” over and over, hoping to shut down the conversation. The star became even more enraged when Hostin got some audience members to agree with her.

“Nobody agrees with me?” Hostin says.

“I’m sorry! You’re going to take her word for it?” Goldberg said indignantly while the other co-hosts laughed. “I like her too! I love that jacket. But you’re wrong, and let me explain why. Sometimes, people are asked to lose weight because they have nodes. They have to be able to get down there and get ahold of the nodes.”

She went on:  “People lose their voice for many reasons. It is never, as far as I’ve been around for a hundred thousand years, maybe ten years less than my friend Joy.”

“You’ve never heard of that?” Hostin tried again.

“Well, I don’t think that people lose weight in their lungs,” Behar chimed in.

“It doesn’t change your voice!” Goldberg retorted.

“The voice is more robust when they’re—” Hostin started to say as Goldberg kept talking. “When opera singers lose weight, they don’t lose their ability to sing,” Goldberg said.

“A lot of black singers are robust,” Hostin said.

That last comment set Goldberg off. “They’re WHAT?” she said in disgust. “Oh my gosh. You know what — we’re going to break.”

The body-positive movement has changed the way mainstream media discusses weight loss. Now, people are discouraged from celebrating dropping pounds or equating slimming down with better health. The Daily Wire reported that Wilson faced criticism from her own team for her dramatic change in appearance, which she said she did for health reasons.

“They were like, ‘Why? Why would you wanna do that?’ Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person.”
