Representative Wesley Hunt (R-Tx) torched the idea of “gender affirming care” during a hearing Thursday, saying that his two daughters “will not change in front of biological men,” and that “we must do everything we can to protect” children.

During a hearing by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, lawmakers heard testimony from former female college athlete Paula Scanlan — who was forced to compete alongside trans-identifying male swimmer Lia Thomas — detransitioner Chloe Cole, and others.

Hunt said that as a combat veteran, he fought for the right for “you as an adult to make your own decision,” but when it comes to children, that’s a “different story. It is our obligation to protect them.”

“When it comes to gender dysphoria in children, many in the American medical establishment have absolutely lost their mind,” he added, noting that “child mutilation” is not the answer.

He pointed out that in places like Finland, Sweden, France, and the U.K., they “are reversing course” and “asking questions.”

“What do their doctors know that our doctors don’t?” he asked.

“Ms. Scanlan, my daughters are going to watch this … and I can assure you that my four-year-old and my two-year-old daughters will not change in front of biological men,” Hunt exclaimed. “This is ridiculous.”

“I don’t care what party you are a part of,” he added. “If you think that we are all equal and the same biologically, you’ve literally lost your mind. And when my two daughters work hard in a sport, work hard in their craft to be the best that they can be, amongst other women, they will compete against other women.”

“I owe Victoria and Olivia and every other young lady in this country that,” Hunt continued. “If you think I’m wrong, I am not the problem, I can assure you. We have an opportunity in this country to get this right in 2024, so we can stop all of this foolishness.”

Scanlan testified during Thursday’s hearing that when she spoke out to the University of Pennsylvania about Thomas, her concerns were ignored. Cole also told lawmakers that she felt the medical health care system failed her “on every single level.”
