Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) sounded off on Congresswoman-elect Maya Flores’ (R-TX) recent victory in the Lonestar State’s 34th congressional district, telling The Daily Wire in an exclusive statement that Democrats are “privately panicking” over the Hispanic exodus from the Left.
Last Tuesday, Flores became the first Republican member of Congress elected in the 34th district in more than 150 years and the first female born in Mexico elected to Congress.
“What happened in South Texas last week with Mayra Flores’ victory was a political earthquake of historic proportions,” Cruz told The Daily Wire on Tuesday. “There is just no other way to describe it. I’ve spoken to many of my colleagues and the Democrats are privately panicking about their losses with Hispanics.”
Recent polling indicates that just 20% of Hispanic voters approve of President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy while 41% would prefer the GOP to control Congress rather than Democrats.
Similarly, President Donald Trump had “about a 10 point gain” in Hispanic voters from 2016 to 2020, Ruth Igielnik, a senior researcher at Pew told Politico. Out of the top 10 counties with the largest shift from Democratic voters to GOP from 2016 to 2020, nine were in South Texas and all were majority Hispanic.
“From Mexican-Americans in Texas to Colombian Americans in Florida and Puerto Ricans in New York, Hispanics of all backgrounds are abandoning the Democrat Party in droves,” Cruz added in his statement to The Daily Wire. “Not only is there nothing the Democrats can do about it, it’s going to get a lot worse for them.
Cruz also predicted that Cassy Garcia, running for Congress in Texas’ 28th district, as well as Monica De La Cruz, seeking victory in Texas’15th district, will also win their races.
“The historically blue Rio Grande Valley is turning red this November,” Cruz added. “Mayra will soon be joined in Congress by rockstars like my friends Cassy Garcia and Monica De La Cruz.”
De La Cruz recently told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “Hispanic voters are seeing a through the garbage that the Democrats are putting out.”
Democrats like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have encouraged members of her party to continue using the gender-neutral phrase “Latinx” when referring to Hispanic voters. Polls have consistently shown that just 2% of voters use that term and the vast majority dislike it.
The Daily Wire recently reported that even CNN’s Van Jones has mocked that term, and ridiculed Democrats for their inability to communicate.
“If you pull out the working class, you’ve got people who are very well educated and very well off. Those people talk funny — Latinx? I’ve never met a Latinx,” Jones said after Flores’ victory. “I’ve never met a BIPOC. I’ve never met — you know — all this weird stuff that these highly-educated people say, it’s bizarre. Nobody talks that way at the barber shop, the nail salon, the grocery store, the community center — but that’s how we talk now, so that’s weird.”
Cruz told The Daily Wire that Garcia, De La Cruz, and Flores will be a “nightmare for Democrats because they will fight for all Americans and stop the radical Biden-Pelosi-Schumer agenda that is destroying our country.”
“The Democrats are in big trouble with Hispanics, suburban moms, and blue-collar workers who are fed-up with their failed economic policies, elitism, and woke ideology,” he added.
Cruz noted that voters can expect a GOP landslide this November if Republicans work together across the board to defeat the Left.
“Americans know that our country is in serious trouble, but there is light at the end of the tunnel,” he added. “That’s why I am traveling to Wisconsin this weekend to bring some of the energy and excitement I’m seeing in South Texas to the Together for Truth Summit in Milwaukee where I’ll be joined by my friend Sen. Ron Johnson and a great slate of speakers.”
According to summit organizers, the Together for Truth event “will feature speeches from conservative leaders, as well as action workshops led by some of the country’s top political strategists designed for conservatives who want to win big in November.”
“We have a message of hope, opportunity, and American revival — and I can’t wait to share it with conservatives and other like-minded patriots in America’s Heartland,” Cruz said of the GOP message. “If we come together, I have no doubt that we will see a red tsunami sweep across the nation this November.”
