Whether it’s attending an invite-only party or dressing up with family at home, NFLers didn’t disappoint in their recent Halloween-themed costumes as Spooky Season is upon us at Sport & State.
I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of Halloween season. Maybe that’s because I associate the holiday with 35-degree weather, gray skies, and having to wear a coat that literally covered up half of my costume.
Welcome to growing up in Metro Detroit, where every other year it seemed to snow or sleet on Halloween. Brutal.
Anyways, enough of my complaining — we live in the Sunshine State now, thankfully — so let’s get into some of our favorite costumes from the NFL universe. Please feel free to message me on X with ones you liked the most.
Sunday scaries
We start with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who decided to rewind back the clock to 1998 and The Waterboy at the team’s Halloween party hosted by captain Aidan Hutchinson, who went as Waluigi from Super Mario Bros.
No coaches allowed, apparently.

Goff dressed up as the main character Bobby Boucher of South Central Louisiana State University, while his wife Christen Harper portrayed Boucher’s totally sane crazy, love interest Vicki Vallencourt.
You got to love Harper’s commitment to the entire costume with a SCLSU hat. Let’s go Mud Dogs.

Meanwhile, running back Jahmyr Gibbs put on some aviators and a wig to be “Michael Jackson at the Grammy Awards.”
As a writer, I appreciate Gibbs’ attention to detail here. Nice work, Jahmyr.

Star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who could be getting a call from the Commissioner’s office with his gang member outfit, ran through his teammates’ choices on a recent podcast, including highlighting linebacker Derek Barnes’ Spiderman costume and defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, who portrayed rapper Soulja Boy.

“Team bonding is very important for the team, especially for Halloween, just a time to dress up, an excuse to dress up, an excuse to go out with the guys, with your loved ones,” Brown said.
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
No NFL team does Halloween better than the Detroit Lions 👻 https://t.co/F8ekVFOdci

Halloween bay-be
We head West to San Francisco, where the 49ers had their own party, led by quarterback Brock Purdy and wife Jenna, who hosted the bash as Sulley and Mike Wazowski for their annual Halloween social gathering.
Who doesn’t love a little Monster’s, Inc. movie theme?

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall Jr. chose an all-time classic in Austin Powers.
This is awesome: Ricky Pearsall dressed up as Austin Powers for the 49ers Halloween party.
One of the best costumes we’ve seen.

San Francisco’s defensive star Nick Bosa and girlfriend Ella Ailiff dressed up as characters from the animated series The Fairly OddParents.
Hand up, I had absolutely zero clue who and what this entailed, but I have it on reliable authority that both Bosa and Ailiff did a marvelous job here, so there’s that.

Still, my favorite costume that I’ve seen from the Purdy’s shindig is cornerback Nate Hobbs and him dressing up as Daejon Love, the fake 49ers player was who accused of defrauding 60-plus women for over $1 million.
Don’t remember anything about Love? Here you go.

Before you go
You decide which Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie had the best Halloween costume on their trip to Carolina last weekend to the play the Panthers.
I’m a fan of backup quarterback Jalon Daniels, who decided to add a distinct chain to his Woody costume.

And for some nice wholesome, family content, take a peek at Washington Commanders’ Mikey Sainristil and his family of grandparents. Seriously, try not to smile after watching the below video. You’re welcome.
WHOLESOME: Washington #Commanders star defensive back Mikey Sainristil and his family dressed up as GRANDPARENTS for Halloween.
The entire family went all out with the gray wigs, glasses, and outfits.
This is absolutely hilarious.
