<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A sequel to the 1987 Mel Brooks monster hit “Star Wars” parody “Spaceballs” is in the works, with actor Josh Gad and Brooks on board producing the upcoming film.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Amazon MGM Studios confirmed to The </span><a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/spaceballs-sequel-josh-gad-mel-brooks-1235926252/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hollywood Reporter</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that a sequel to the 1980s comedy is in early development with Gad not only on board to produce, but star in as well.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The script is being written by Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit, and Gad, with Josh Greenbaum helming the project, the outlet noted.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Details of the plot are being kept under wraps for now with Kevin Salter on board as executive producer.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Spaceballs” came out from MGM a decade after George Lucas introduced the world to the Force in “Star Wars” in the late 1970s.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The parody’s cast included such up-and-coming stars of the time as John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga. And the C-3PO parody character was voiced by the late-star Joan Rivers.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Over time, the space parody has developed a cult-like following, making it one of Brooks&#8217; standout movies.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Earlier this month, Gad got everyone’s attention when it appeared he teased the upcoming project, with parts of the script blacked out, the outlet noted.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited,” Gad captioned his </span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C77KSWWRPNp/?hl=en"><span style="font-weight: 400;">post</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, calling working with Samit and Hernandez “heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The parts of the script that weren’t blacked out included the words “Ext. Star Field,” and if one looked closely, it appeared that it read, “</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">based on characters created by Mel &#8230;”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Reading through the comments, many people speculated it was the long lost sequel to “Spaceballs” that Gad was teasing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a second post on Tuesday, Gad wrote, “Holy s***. Talk about ludicrous speed.</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">#spaceballs</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">.” His post included screenshots of the numerous articles that had been written so far confirming the sequel was finally happening</span></p>
