The public’s approval of the U.S. Secret Service has plummeted as the agency navigates backlash over lapses in its protection of former President Donald Trump.
The Secret Service’s approval rating has hit a new low, mainly in the aftermath of the failed assassination of Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. In a poll published on Monday, Gallup found that the percentage of Americans giving the agency positive marks plummeted 23 points.
Roughly one-third of Americans, 32%, rate the agency “excellent” or “good,” while 25% rate it “only fair,” and 36% say the agency is “poor,” according to <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/651014/secret-service-job-rating-tumbles-points-new-low.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gallup</a>. Those numbers are the lowest the Secret Service has scored in the five times Gallup has measured Americans’ support for the agency over the past decade.
The poll was conducted between September 3 and 15 and was almost completed before another Trump assassination attempt was thwarted on September 15. Secret Service agents noticed a gun barrel extended from a bush just outside the fence of the Trump International Golf Club, where the former president was playing golf, and fired upon a man in the bush.
The suspected would-be assassin, 58-year-old Ryan Routh, reportedly fired no shots before fleeing the scene. He was later arrested and charged with two federal gun-related crimes.

Approval of the Secret Service has dropped among Democrats, Republicans, and independents, though trust in the agency among Republicans has fallen furthest of all.
“Positive ratings of the Secret Service have dropped precipitously since last year among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (by 26 points, to 20%) and Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents (by 18 points, to 47%),” Gallup notes.
The agency has faced bipartisan backlash over its security of Trump’s Butler rally, where the attempted assassin snuck onto a nearby roof and took several shots at the former president, nicking Trump’s ear and killing one rallygoer. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle announced her resignation soon after the rally as Democrats and Republicans said she should step down.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have recently accused the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of “stonewalling” attempts to investigate the Secret Service failures at the Butler rally. Secret Service is under DHS.
Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, who chairs the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations within the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/top-senate-democrat-angry-over-biden-harris-admin-stonewalling-after-trump-assassination-attempts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> DHS was “almost derelict in its duty” to respond to lawmaker requests for documents and information regarding the Butler rally.

Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro broke down the schism that has erupted between President Donald Trump and his one-time wealthy ally, tech titan Elon Musk.
Trump and Musk went from close friends and allies to hurling insults and threats at each other as simmering tensions blew up into the public on Thursday. The fight escalated into Trump threatening the government contracts of Musk’s companies, while Musk teased launching a new political party and suggesting Trump might have had associations with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
“It&#8217;s gotten very, very personal between President Trump and Elon Musk. It doesn&#8217;t look like it&#8217;s going to calm down anytime soon because, again, you&#8217;re talking about two incredibly powerful men, two incredibly rich men with large egos who believe that they are in the right,” Shapiro said in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ben-reacts-250605">episode</a> of “Ben Reacts” released on Thursday, adding, “so, this is likely to continue for some time.”
Shapiro said that the rift between Trump and Musk broke down over time along political and business lines, and that contributed to a massive blowup between the two men personally.
In politics, Trump and Musk’s objectives were in tension, according to Shapiro.
After Trump won the 2024 election and brought Musk into the administration, Musk’s goal had been to lead efforts inside the government to cut waste, fraud, and abuse through the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk believes that the financial footing of the United States is unsteady with massive deficit spending constantly adding to an already historic national debt.
For Trump’s part, while the president was happy to have Musk trim along the edges of government, Musk could not touch the main drivers of deficit spending in the United States’ budget, and Trump did not campaign on making cuts to programs such as Social Security and Medicare. The cuts that Musk envisioned making to the federal budget – in the trillions of dollars – were never going to materialize.
The unbridgeable political divide contributed to a rift between the two men over Musk’s businesses, namely his electric car company Tesla and his space exploration company SpaceX.
The “Big, Beautiful Bill” that passed the House with Trump’s backing cut electric vehicle tax credits without making significant cuts to the federal budget. While the tax credit cuts will harm Musk’s company, the tech titan would have been willing to absorb the cuts had he been able to point to meaningful savings for the United States, Shapiro said. But the bill lacked the deep cuts because political support for such cuts is too small and the risk too great to get through Congress.
Trump also pulled the nomination of his pick to head NASA, Jared Isaacman, “after a thorough review of prior associations,” referring to Isaacman’s past support for Democrats. Isaacman is a friend of Musk’s and likely would have worked with Musk on his longterm mission to make humanity “multiplanetary” through SpaceX. Isaacman’s nomination was pulled soon after Musk left the administration.
“The suggestion is that [Musk] was insulted. Between that and the EV stuff, he basically decided to go after President Trump. President Trump, of course, will not take a punch sitting down,” Shapiro said. “Now, you have two very big egos who do not take insults lightly going directly at each other.”
The online battle between the two culminated in Trump threatening to cut billions in government contracts with Musk’s companies and Musk suggesting that Trump was blocking the release of the Epstein files because the president is implicated in them.

Ben Shapiro Breaks Down The Trump-Musk Blowup And Explains Why It’s Not Going Away

The Supreme Court on Thursday tossed a lawsuit by the Mexican government against United States gun manufacturers.
The unanimous court decision found that Mexico did not prove a link between the gun manufacturers and cartel violence in Mexico. Justice Elena Kagan wrote the 9-0 opinion in the case known as Smith &amp; Wesson Brands, Inc. v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
“Mexico alleges that the companies aided and abetted unlawful sales routing guns to Mexican drug cartels. The question presented is whether Mexico’s complaint plausibly pleads that conduct. We conclude it does not,” Kagan <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/23-1141_lkgn.pdf">wrote</a>.
Lawyers for the Mexican government argued that gun makers in the United States sold firearms to “rogue dealers” who in turn sold guns illegally to Mexican gun traffickers to eventually end up in the possession of cartels. The cartels have used those firearms to do damage to the Mexican government.
Mexico’s argument failed due to a lack of specificity and linkage between the gun manufacturers and the “rogue dealers.”
“To begin, the complaint sets for itself a high bar. It does not pinpoint, as most aiding-and-abetting claims do, any specific criminal transactions that the defendants (allegedly) assisted. Instead, it levels a more general accusation: that all the manufacturers assist some number of unidentified rogue dealers in violation of various legal bars. The systemic nature of that charge cannot help but heighten Mexico’s burden. To survive, it must be backed by plausible allegations of pervasive, systemic, and culpable assistance,” Kagan wrote.

“Mexico’s lead claim — that the manufacturers elect to sell guns to, among others, known rogue dealers — fails to clear that bar,” she continued. “For one thing, it is far from clear that such behavior, without more, could ever count as aiding and abetting under the Court’s precedents. And in any event, Mexico has not said enough to make its allegations on this point plausible: It does not confront that the manufacturers do not directly supply any dealers, and its complaint does not name alleged bad-apple dealers or provide grounds for thinking that anyone up the supply chain often acquires that information.”
In recent months, President Donald Trump has ramped up pressure on Mexico to crack down on drug cartels across the country. The cartels have long served as human traffickers fomenting illegal immigration and drug traffic into the United States.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/02/world/americas/mexico-cartel-fentanyl-trump-tariffs.html">shown</a> some willingness to work with Trump on the cartel issue after the United States placed significant tariffs on Mexican goods, arguing that Mexico’s handling of drug cartels and immigration constituted a severe national security risk to the United States.

SCOTUS Tosses Mexico Lawsuit Against U.S. Gun Manufacturers

President Donald Trump took executive action on Wednesday to ban travel from a dozen countries and place partial restrictions on travel from seven more.
The <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/06/restricting-the-entry-of-foreign-nationals-to-protect-the-united-states-from-foreign-terrorists-and-other-national-security-and-public-safety-threats/">memorandum</a> directs to “fully restrict and limit” travel from Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Partial travel restrictions will be placed on Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
“The United States must ensure that admitted aliens and aliens otherwise already present in the United States do not bear hostile attitudes toward its citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles, and do not advocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists or other threats to our national security,” the memorandum says.
The directive is set to take effect on Monday.
“The restrictions and limitations imposed by this proclamation are, in my judgment, necessary to prevent the entry or admission of foreign nationals about whom the United States Government lacks sufficient information to assess the risks they pose to the United States,” the memorandum states.
Trump’s order says that the targeted countries have failed to build adequate “information-sharing and identity-management procedures” and that immigration from some of the countries can increase the risk of terrorism in the United States.
“Nationals of some countries also pose significant risks of overstaying their visas in the United States, which increases burdens on immigration and law enforcement components of the United States, and often exacerbates other risks related to national security and public safety,” the memorandum says.
In a <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114627858736860268">video</a> posted to his Truth Social account, Trump cited the recent attack in Boulder, Colorado, on a demonstration in support of hostages in Gaza. According to authorities, that attack was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/colorado-hits-egyptian-anti-israel-terror-suspect-with-charges-including-murder">carried out</a> by an Egyptian national who was in the country illegally after overstaying his visa.
The Boulder attack &#8220;underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign national who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas,&#8221; Trump said, adding, &#8220;we don&#8217;t want them!&#8221;
The president issued a similar order during his first term banning almost all travel from Iran, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia. He also placed restrictions on travel from North Korea and banned government officials from Venezuela.
After a legal fight, the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.npr.org/2018/06/26/606481548/supreme-court-upholds-trump-travel-ban">voted</a> 5-4 to uphold Trump’s travel ban, which Trump at the time called “a tremendous victory for the American People and the Constitution.”
“In this era of worldwide terrorism and extremist movements bent on harming innocent civilians, we must properly vet those coming into our country,” Trump said in a statement at the time. “This ruling is also a moment of profound vindication following months of hysterical commentary from the media and Democratic politicians who refuse to do what it takes to secure our border and our country.”

‘We Don’t Want Them!’: Trump Slaps Travel Ban On Countries Whose Citizens Aren’t Vetted

Federal authorities have arrested a suspected accomplice to a man who committed a suicidal terror attack against a California fertility clinic last month.
FBI agents arrested Daniel Park, 32, in New York after he was extradited to the United States from Poland. Authorities <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/washington-state-man-arrested-federal-charges-alleging-he-provided-material-support-palm">say</a> Park provided “significant quantities of ammonium nitrate” to Guy Bartkus, who died bombing a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, last month.
“Let this be a reminder: If you harm the American people, or aid and abet those who do, you cannot hide. This FBI will work with our partners to pursue you, find you, and bring you to justice — in any corner of the planet,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement on X.

Attorney General Pam Bondi secured extradition for Park to the United States while she was on a trip to Poland this week. Park had been detained in Poland for two weeks until the attorney general’s visit and his extradition.
“Bringing chaos and violence to a facility that exists to help women and mothers is a particularly cruel, disgusting crime that strikes at the very heart of our shared humanity,&#8221; Bondi said in a statement to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/06/04/bondi-extradite-poland-daniel-jongyon-park">Axios</a>, which first reported on Park’s extradition.
Bartkus attacked the Palm Springs American Reproductive Centers clinic on May 17. Bartkus drove a car with a bomb inside to the clinic and detonated it, killing himself. Others wounded in the blast have since been treated and released from hospital care.
The blast from the bomb was strong enough to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/05/19/nx-s1-5403669/what-we-know-palm-springs-ivf-clinic-bombing">send</a> pieces of nearby vehicles hundreds of feet in the air, according to police.
Park “shares Bartkus’s extremist views,” according to the Department of Justice, which said that Bartkus’ attack was motivated by his “pro-mortalism, anti-natalism, and anti-pro-life ideology.”
Park shipped an estimated 180 pounds of ammonium nitrate, an explosive precursor chemical, to Bartkus ahead of the attack on the clinic. Park also paid for 90 more pounds of the explosive to be shipped to Bartkus, according to prosecutors.
Park began to ship the ammonium nitrate to Bartkus shortly before Park stayed with Bartkus from January 25 to February 8. Park and Bartkus spent part of their time together in Bartkus’ garage “running experiments,” prosecutors said.

Feds Arrest Suspected Fertility Clinic Terror Bombing Accomplice

Former President Joe Biden may have unknowingly crippled fossil fuel projects because staffers may have abused their authority to sign orders the president never approved. 
Daniel Turner, founder of Power The Future, testified to Congress on Wednesday that White House staff may have used an autopen of Biden’s signature in a major “deceit of the American people.” Turner’s group has <a href="https://www.powerthefuture.com/shocking-new-report-raises-questions-about-bidens-awareness-of-sweeping-climate-orders/">called</a> for an investigation into eight of Biden’s executive orders over suspicions that they may have been signed without the president’s knowledge.
“This is impersonation of the president,” Turner explained to GOP Rep. James Comer. “Staffers, of course, have a lot of leniency in what they do working on behalf of the president, but these executive orders that we identified, there&#8217;s no evidence of Joe Biden in first person, in his voice as president talking about them.”
“When you ban the export of liquid natural gas and you never get asked about it in person, one has to wonder if Joe Biden did it or if a staffer did it on his behalf?” Turner continued.
Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, is leading a congressional investigation into the Biden administration&#8217;s use of an autopen to sign executive orders as part of a larger probe into a White House cover-up of the former president&#8217;s precipitous health decline.
Turner cited an anecdote from House Speaker Mike Johnson about a meeting the speaker had with Biden. Earlier this year, Johnson relayed that he once met with Biden and questioned the former president on an order pausing liquified natural gas exports to non-Free Trade Agreement countries. Biden had denied ever signing the order.
“He genuinely didn’t know what he had signed,” Johnson <a href="https://x.com/TheFP/status/1880413292251984065">said</a>. “I walked out of that meeting with fear and loathing because I thought, ‘we are in serious trouble — who is running the country?’ Like, I don’t know who put the paper in front of him, but he didn’t know.”
The story at the time had been taken as more evidence of the former president’s mental decline. But, Biden may also have been honestly ignorant that his signature was on the order, Turner said.
“Two things can be true: maybe he really didn&#8217;t know what Speaker Johnston was talking about. Maybe he had no idea he passed this executive order,” said Turner. “If the president was never asked about it, and he hides from the press, and there&#8217;s no opportunity for him to get asked in public about it, how do we know he actually did it?”
Turner said that in the course of these questionable executive orders being carried out, “lives were destroyed.”
“When you ban the export of liquid natural gas, there are hundreds of thousands of men and women who work in the natural gas industry. Lives are destroyed. People went bankrupt because of” an order Biden may not have knowingly signed, Turner said.

‘This Is Impersonation Of The President’: Expert Lays Out The Stakes Of Biden’s Autopen Controversy

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has left the Democratic Party after working for two Democratic presidents and a career of toeing the party line, most notably while also defending former President Joe Biden amid his obvious cognitive decline.
News about Jean-Pierre’s party affiliation broke with the listing of her new memoir, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” online. The Barnes &amp; Noble description of the book reveals that Jean-Pierre has become an independent.
“In a country obsessed with blind loyalty to a two-party democratic system, Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary to the Biden-Harris administration, shares why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as Independents,” the description begins.
“Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly. She has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden,” it continues.
In the book, Jean-Pierre “urges Americans to think outside of the blue-and-red box as we consider what’s next to save our democracy,” the description says.
Former President Biden promoted Jean-Pierre into the press secretary role in May 2022, and from then until the end of his term, Jean-Pierre served as Biden’s foremost apologist and defender.
Jean-Pierre repeatedly dismissed questions over Biden’s physical and mental health. In July 2024, after Biden withdrew from the presidential race following his disastrous debate performance, Jean-Pierre flatly denied that there was a “cover-up” to hide the president’s frailty from the public.
“There’s been no cover up. I want to be very clear about that,” <a href="https://x.com/therecount/status/1816206435656819178">said</a> Jean-Pierre.
The former press secretary was unsparingly critical of outlets that questioned Biden’s fitness for office, especially if those outlets were right-of-center. Asked earlier in July, before Biden exited the race, if she regretted pushing back so hard against questions about Biden’s health, Jean-Pierre <a href="https://x.com/FoxNews/status/1808289599401169250">responded</a>: “not at all.”
“Let me be clear, it was a certain part of the media – you can speak to this better than I can – it was a certain part of the media which was doing this,” said Jean-Pierre while talking to a Fox News reporter. “At the end of the day, they’re fakes. That what they were, targeting the president.”
“I don’t regret it at all. It was just the facts,” she said.
CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson recently released a book, “Original Sin,” that implicates the Biden White House in a cover-up of the president’s health in the book’s subtitle: “President Biden&#8217;s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”
Tapper and Thompson detail that for at least 18 months prior to the 2024 election, Biden’s inner circle and top aides at the White House strategized on how to keep the ailing president from being scrutinized too closely. The ailing president’s decline was so serious aides <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/05/13/biden-book-wheelchair-2024-campaign-original-sin">discussed</a> getting the president a wheelchair if he won reelection.
Many Americans were already skeptical of Biden’s health. In September 2023, a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/07/politics/cnn-poll-joe-biden-headwinds">CNN</a> poll found that “[r]oughly three-quarters of Americans say they’re seriously concerned that Biden’s age might negatively affect his current level of physical and mental competence (73%), and his ability to serve out another full term if reelected (76%).”
Throughout the campaign and Biden’s final days, Jean-Pierre defended the president against questions over his health.
Last month, Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-diagnosed-with-aggressive-form-of-prostate-cancer">revealed</a> that he has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. The diagnosis raised fresh questions about the former president’s health, his fitness for office, and who knew what about his health during his time as president.
A spokesperson for the former president <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-biden/joe-biden-psa-screening-2014-prostate-cancer-rcna208120">said</a> Biden’s last cancer screening was more than a decade ago in 2014, as a way of explaining how the former president’s cancer was missed until last month.
In her new book, Jean-Pierre appears ready to defend her record as Biden’s chief defender over questions about his health. The book’s description on Barnes &amp; Noble suggests that Jean-Pierre believes that Biden’s run for reelection failed because of “betrayal” by the Democratic Party.
“In 2020, she joined Biden’s campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harris’s chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary. She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision,” the description says.
