Sarah Huckabee Sanders Will Receive Secret Service Protection

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders will receive Secret Service protection, sources close to the White House told CNN late Tuesday.

Sanders has been the target of activist ire, like many Trump administration members, and last weekend was asked to leave the Red Hen, a restaurant in suburban Virginia, because the White House’s policies made some of the restaurant’s employees uncomfortable.

Sanders returned home after the incident, but according to her father, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a crowd, including the Red Hen’s owner, followed Sanders’ remaining family to a another restaurant and protested outside while Sanders’ family ate inside.

“I was asked to leave because I worked for President Trump,” Sanders said in a press conference Tuesday, when asked about the incident. “We are allowed to disagree but we should be able to do so freely and without fear of harm and this goes for all people regardless of politics.”

Last week, protesters harassed the Department of Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen while she ate at a D.C. restaurant, and on Tuesday, protesters confronted Sen. Mitch McConnell’s wife, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, outside the pair’s home in D.C.

With growing sentiment on the Left, encouraged by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), that in-person harassment and violence is the only way to truly “resist” the Trump administration, Sanders and her colleagues are right to be concerned for their safety.

The Secret Service declined to comment on the news.
