A Russian rocket attack on a train station in eastern Ukraine used to evacuate civilians killed more than 30 people and injured over 80 others on Friday.

Donetsk regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko shared details of the brutal destruction on Twitter Friday.

“Russians hit Kramatorsk train station with a missile bearing cluster ammunition,” Kyrylenko wrote. “Thousands of civilians were waiting for evacuation there, dozens killed and injured. Russians knew exactly whom they were targeting. RF is an Empire of Evil and always have been. It must be punished!”

Another post added, “Thousands of people were at the station during the missile strike, as residents of Donetsk region are being evacuated to safer regions of Ukraine” (English translation).

Zelensky also took to social media to address the ongoing tragedy in the eastern part of his nation.

“The inhuman Russians are not changing their methods. Without the strength or courage to stand up to us on the battlefield, they are cynically destroying the civilian population,” the president said. “This is an evil without limits. And if it is not punished, then it will never stop.”

In his video to the nation on Thursday night, the Ukrainian president also addressed brutal discoveries in other parts of the nation.

“What will happen when the world learns the whole truth about what the Russian military did in Mariupol? There, on almost every street, is what the world saw in Bucha and other towns in the Kyiv region after the withdrawal of Russian troops. The same cruelty. The same heinous crimes,” Zelensky said.

He again referred to the Russian attacks as war crimes, claiming the Kremlin’s armed forces will be held accountable.

“We are dealing with invaders who have nothing human left. To justify their own killings, they take the murdered people simply as scenery, as propaganda props. And this is a separate war crime, for which each of the propagandists will be held accountable,” Zelensky added.

The news comes as the United Nations General Assembly voted on Thursday to suspend Russia from the Human Rights Council. The vote was held during a session in New York, and comes in response to growing condemnation of alleged war crimes by Russian forces in Ukraine. The Daily Wire reported:

“Russia’s rights of membership in the UN Human Rights Council has just been suspended,” Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, responded. “War criminals have no place in UN bodies aimed at protecting human rights. Grateful to all member states which supported the relevant UNGA resolution and chose the right side of history.”

Of the 175 votes cast, 93 were in favor, while 24 were against. There were 58 abstentions. Two-thirds of the body (excluding abstentions) were required to vote in favor in order for the suspension to be successful.
