A London jury on Thursday convicted British actor and comedian Russell Brand of rape and sexual assault in connection with allegations dating back more than two decades.

The 51-year-old was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. He was acquitted of two additional rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault.

Judge Joel Bennathan said Brand would be sentenced Monday, and Brand was taken into custody immediately after the verdict, the Associated Press reported. Prosecutors described him as a “ruthless, calculating, manipulative sexual predator,” the outlet reported.

Brand denied the charges. But during the trial, he admitted to being obsessed with sex as a young man and having lived a promiscuous lifestyle, but insisted he had never forced anyone to do anything against their will. Brand has also recently become outspoken about Christianity and frequently discusses how he now finds joy in his faith and has moved on from his past life that was filled with drug and sex addiction.

The jury, comprising eight men and four women at Southwark Crown Court, deliberated for more than eight hours over two days.

The charges stemmed from alleged incidents between 1999 and 2009, The Daily Wire reported. The Crown Prosecution Service, England’s principal prosecuting authority, authorized charges against Brand following a Metropolitan Police investigation.

In April 2025, the Metropolitan Police charged Brand with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.

The allegations involved four women and four separate incidents: a woman who said she was raped in the Bournemouth area in 1999; a woman who alleged indecent assault in London’s Westminster area in 2001; a woman who reported being orally raped and sexually assaulted in Westminster in 2004; and a woman who alleged sexual assault in the same area between 2004 and 2005.
