Former female collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines responded to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on social media after the Biden administration official fielded a reporter’s question about trans-identifying male athletes being able to compete in women’s sports.
During a Tuesday briefing, a journalist asked Jean-Pierre if President Joe Biden believes “it’s fair for girls to have to compete against biological males?”
Jean-Pierre replied, “It is a complicated issue. It is truly a complicated issue with a wide range of views, a wide range of views. There is no yes or no answer to this. It is complicated…”
“We want to make sure that while we establish guardrails with this rule, that we also prevent discrimination as well against transgender kids,” Jean-Pierre added. “But again, a complicated issue with a wide range of views and we respect that.”
Following Jean-Pierre’s remarks, Gaines posted a message on X to her hundreds of thousands of followers slamming her response.
"Does the president agree that [biological boys playing girls' sports] is a women's rights issue?"

Gaines sarcastically wrote: “Well, we do know we won’t stand for trans kids to be told they can’t play where they want, but we don’t know if we care about women, therefore this issue is complicated.”
“This is quite literally the least complicated issue,” Gaines continued. “Males compete with males. Females compete with females.

“No one is being told they can’t play sports. No one is being told they can’t transition,” she added. “Just compete where [it] is safe & fair. Again, not complicated.”

The former University of Kentucky swimmer has become a vocal advocate for women’s rights in sports and has faced backlash for speaking out against females competing against biological males.
During an event at San Francisco State University earlier this year, Gaines says she was verbally and physically assaulted by leftists when she was on campus to speak about the discrimination women are facing in their female sports.
