As reported by journalist Ariel Helwani, UFC fighter Kevin Holland was one of three men who helped to stop a gunman at a Houston, Texas, restaurant on Monday night.
“A gunman opened fire in a Houston restaurant last night. 40-50 ppl were inside, per reports,” Helwani said on Twitter. “3 men immediately took the gunman down, subdued him and took his gun away. No one was injured. One of those heroes? KEVIN HOLLAND, I’m told. He did it again.”
According to ABC13 in Houston, a suspect pulled out a gun at Ra Sushi in Houston and fired one shot into the air. Three customers rushed the suspect, apprehending the man before police arrived on the scene.
“We were eating, and the next thing you know, a gunshot just popped off. So everything paused and then everybody started running to get down under a table,” Patrick Robinson, one of the people who stopped the shooter, said according to ABC 13.
“We got him down, apprehended him, got the gun away from him and the bag that he had,” Robinson continued.
According to police, the suspect is a 24-year-old man who was wanted by authorities for another charge.
Tuesday morning, Holland posted to social media to let his fans know that he was ok.

In October, Helwani reported that Holland was involved in another act of heroism, stopping a man from stealing a vehicle in his neighborhood.

Holland is coming off of a win over Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira at UFC 272 in Las Vegas, moving him to 22-7 in his MMA career. It was Holland’s debut in the welterweight division, and he wasn’t completely satisfied with his performance.
“C+. Rough first round, probably could have did a little better on the microphone. It was alright. Can always do better,” Holland said on The MMA Hour.
“He did a really good job of moving around,” he continued. “I kept touching that leg though. Tax the leg, tax the leg, tax the leg. I couldn’t find him with the hands so I taxed the leg, and eventually I think those legs started to get a little heavy. Then bada-bing, bada-bang, I lined him up, so I can’t be mad at it.”
Holland said he’ll be looking to fight in either the middleweight or welterweight divisions for his next match.
“Shoot, if they’ve got something available next month at 185 pounds — because I don’t feel like going on a diet right this second — then I’ll do that, too,” Holland said according to MMA Fighting.
“It would mess things up if I was shooting for something specifically,” Holland continued. “I’m just shooting to be an active guy. I’m just shooting to continue to grow and get experience and be a better fighter. So if I can fight five, six times this year, that’d be awesome. I like to fight a lot, so I can’t do every fight at 170 pounds if I’m gonna fight six times this year. There’s still some good fights at ‘85, so I’ll take whatever comes. I think an ‘85 fight sounds good right now if I want to go out and eat carne asada for the next few weeks.”
