For the second time in less than a week, a protester has interrupted an NBA basketball game.

During the second quarter of game one between the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Playoffs, a woman reportedly chained herself to the basket in protest. Security was able to unchain her, and the woman was physically removed from the floor.

According to Evan Barnes, Memphis football reporter for The Commercial Appeal, the protester was connected to a similar protest which occurred at the Target Center in Minneapolis last Tuesday.

“Per the Grizzlies: The protestor is being removed from the building after she was escorted off the floor,” Barnes posted to Twitter. “She’s connected to the previous protest at the Timberwolves play-in game and wore a ‘Glen Taylor Roasts Animals Alive’ shirt as she chained herself to the basket.” According to USA Today, the woman also threw flyers onto the court.

Saturday’s game between the Grizzlies and the Timberwolves ended with Minnesota winning game one of the playoff series 130-117. Anthony Edwards led the way for Minnesota, scoring 36 points on 12-23 shooting. Karl-Anthony Towns added 29 points and 13 rebounds for the Timberwolves. Memphis star point guard Ja Morant had 32 points, eight assists, and four rebounds to lead the Grizzlies.

On Tuesday night in Minnesota, a protester — also wearing a “Glen Taylor Roasts Animals Alive” t-shirt — reportedly attempted to glue herself to the floor of the Target Center during the NBA’s play-in game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Timberwolves. Taylor is the owner of the Timberwolves.

With 3:34 to go in the second quarter, the Timberwolves were shooting free throws when play was stopped in order to remove a woman on the opposite end of the court.

“I was just told by security that she apparently had glue, and she glued herself to the floor,” TNT sideline reporter Allie LaForce said on the broadcast. “And she refused to lift her wrist up … She glued her wrist to the floor and they were trying to pull her off, and she was resisting, trying to keep her wrist glued down to the floor.”

Sarah Spain of ESPN later shared the group reportedly behind the protest — “Direct Action Everywhere” — which was protesting the killing of chickens at an Iowa egg farm owned by Taylor. The chickens were reportedly infected after a bird flu outbreak.
