Republican Wyoming Sen. Majority Leader Ogden Driskill says he does not intend to endorse GOP Rep. Liz Cheney or her Republican challenger in the upcoming primary race, The Daily Wire has learned.

“I’ll be in a race of my own that’s difficult,” Driskill told The Daily Wire in an interview. “I’ve been known for doing endorsements. At this point, I’m just focused on what my future is. I’m sitting on the sidelines and just going to watch the other races go on.”

Driskill, who said he supports “most of” former President Donald Trump’s policies since they were “good for business,” remarked that he will not endorse Cheney primary challenger Harriet Hageman either. Hageman has been endorsed by top Republican House members, including Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Conference Chair Elise Stefanik.

Trump has been vocal about his opposition to Cheney, who voted to impeach the former president in 2021 and is one of two Republicans on the January 6 Capitol riot investigation committee, along with Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger. When asked whether Cheney’s role in what many GOP members slam as a “partisan” committee makes him less likely to support the congresswoman, Driskill did not say.

“I just look for who the best person is for the job,” he said. “[Cheney and Hageman] are still ironing out their differences. I truly don’t like the lockstep and the parties are working to do that. You really need to have critical decision-makers that are not afraid to do away with their opinion and represent their constituents. They obviously have differences, as does everyone else.”

A spokesperson for Cheney did not return a request for comment.

Cheney and other Republicans have continued to clash, evident by members voting to remove her from House leadership in May. The Wyoming Republican Party swiftly censured the congresswoman after her January impeachment vote, followed by the Republican National Committee for her participation in the January 6 committee.

“After spending time with Harriet, it is readily apparent she will always listen and prioritize the needs of her local communities and is focused on tackling our nation’s biggest problems,” McCarthy told The Federalist last week. “I look forward to serving with Harriet for years to come.”

Last week, Trump announced his support for a measure moving through the Wyoming legislature that would disallow non-Republicans from voting in the state’s GOP House primary. “It makes total sense that only Democrats vote in the Democrat primary and only Republicans vote in the Republican primary,” Trump said.
