Nothing screams “Ivy League education” quite like learning how to properly tie your sexual partner up before spanking them with a paddle.
According to The College Fix, Princeton University is now hosting a “club for students who seek to explore sexual desires that delve into bondage, domination, sadism and masochism, underscoring a larger trend found at many top-tier universities.”
Officially recognized by the student government earlier this month, the club “Princeton Plays” is just one of many student-led BDSM consortiums popping up in the Ivy league, including the likes of Harvard’s “Munch,” Columbia’s “Conversio Virium” and Cornell’s “Crunch.”
As noted by The Fix, the BDSM clubs stem from a larger trend seen on college campuses featuring “Sex Week” events that profile sex subculture with demonstrations on ropes, whips, blindfolds and flogging.
“The University of Chicago’s annual sex week observance typically includes a BDSM workshop,” reports The Fix. “In 2014, a presentation there dubbed ‘Taste of Kink’ gave students an opportunity to explore ‘sensations that can be generated by floggers, rope, electricity and more.’ Likewise, in 2016, the university hosted a ‘sexual pain’ workshop and BDSM tutorials. And earlier this year it hosted ‘Intro to rope bondage.'”
The University of Southern California (USC) and the University of Michigan have held similar seminars. But as far as BDSM clubs go, Ivy League schools are the epicenter. “Princeton Plays” swells the number to four, meaning half of America’s eight prestigious schools now host student government-sponsored clubs on bondage sex.
According to The Daily Princetonian, “Princeton Plays” aims to “provide a safe space for students interested in non-traditional relationships” and “to promote values of sexual inclusivity and affirm that all types of safe and consensual activity between individuals is valid.”
An anonymous member said the group started to create a “safe space” for people looking to push the boundaries of sexual behavior.
