How unpopular is President Trump right now? Unpopular enough that the star of Baywatch is beating him in a poll estimating a prospective 2020 race.
According to a poll from Public Policy Polling, Baywatch star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would get 42% of the vote in a two-way matchup with Trump; Trump would only garner 37%.
And that’s despite the fact that only 36% of voters viewed Johnson favorably, including 38% of Democrats and 31% of Republicans. 50% of voters had no opinion of Johnson whatsoever.
Additionally, Johnson would win over 15% of people who supported Trump last fall.
Johnson has been tooting his own horn as a presidential candidate, responding to a Washington Post op-ed by telling GQ:
A year ago, it started coming up more and more. There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think, ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’ I didn’t want to be flippant — ‘We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!’”
PPP also noted that Trump fared poorly against Joe Biden (54/40 deficit) and Bernie Sanders (52/39 deficit.) 15% of Trump voters said they’d choose Sanders over him and 14% said they’d choose Biden over him.
