Patrick Mahomes confirmed those rumors — about him wearing the same red underwear for every football game he plays with the Chiefs — but the star QB added that, of course, he washes them … unless they are winning.

During the “Monday Night Football Manning Cast” on ESPN with Peyton and Eli Manning, the Kansas City quarterback said that he does wear the same lucky pair of undies for every NFL game, and has done so since his rookie season.

“Well first my wife Brittany got them for me so I…have to wear them you know,” Mahomes told the Manning brothers. “At the same time I threw them on during that first season. We had a pretty good season that season.”

“I only wear them for gameday,” he added. “So, they’re not too worn down. … I clean ’em. I wash ’em. Every once in a while, at least.”

“I mean, if we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash ’em, you know?” Mahomes continued. “I’ve gotta just keep it rolling. As long as I’m winning football games, I’ll keep the superstition going.”

The rumor first started after former Chiefs backup QB let it slip about Mahomes’ superstition, CNN noted.

“Sunday, it’s the same pair [of underwear],” Henne said in February. “This has to be a superstition and good luck charm, for sure.”

The Superbowl-winning QB has played more than 100 NFL games since he started with the Chiefs. In that first season that he started the trend in 2018, the KC team went 12-4 and Mahomes ended up scoring the MVP at just 23 years old, TMZ noted.

Since that time, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowls, winning two out of the three.

The Chiefs currently lead not only the AFC West division with a 7-2 record, but the entire AFC.

The team lost a game the first week of the 2023 season on September 7 to the Detroit Lions, 20-21. The Chiefs have since won all the rest of their games other than a loss to AFC West division opponent Denver Broncos on October 29, 9-24. So, it’s fair to say it is unclear the status of those lucky red undies.
