Two students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida appeared on MSNBC late on Wednesday night following the tragic shooting at their school to discuss the incident and what they think could be done to prevent tragedies like this from occurring in the future.
A student named Brandon joined MSNBC host Brian Williams to discuss what he knew about alleged gunman Nikolas Cruz and what he thought lawmakers could do to prevent tragedies like this from happening.
“Gun-wise, I don’t think there’s any way to prevent it,” Brandon said. “You outlaw guns, it just creates higher demand for it. I think it has to do with mental health, though. If he’s been expelled three different times from three different schools, I think he should be helped out.”
Brandon’s remarks match the questions that many are raising about how officials missed taking action on an individual who was considered so dangerous he was banned from campus, whose social media accounts were described by law enforcement as being “very disturbing,” who had been reported to the FBI because he said he wanted to be a “professional school shooter,” and whom students predicted would one day shoot up a school.
