Celebrities like Cher and Selena Gomez have joined the chorus of stars reacting to the use of Artificial Intelligence after the two slammed AI-generated songs created using their voices without their permission.

The 77-year-old actor recently said that AI technology is “out of control,” “shocking,” and should be “illegal” after hearing a fake version of a song that someone created using her voice to cover a Madonna song.

“Someone did me doing a Madonna song, and it was kind of shocking,” the “If I Could Turn Back Time” singer said.

“They didn’t have it down perfectly,” she added. “But also, I’ve spent my entire life trying to be myself, and now these a**holes are going to go take it?”

“And they’ll do my acting, and they’ll do my singing? It’s just…it’s out of control,” the superstar actress continued. “I’m telling you, if you work forever to become somebody – and I’m not talking about somebody in the famous, money part – but an artist and then someone just takes it from you, it seems like it should be illegal.”

The “Witches of Eastwick” star has also hit back at claims of irony after critics noted she’s credited with being the first star to use technology in her music with use of autotune.

“When we used it, it wasn’t called [auto-tune], it was a pitch machine,” Cher said. “It started and it was like, ‘Oh my God, this is the best thing ever. And I thought, ‘You don’t even know it’s me. This is the best thing ever…'”

The comments backed up what the singer told Paper Magazine on Thursday, which was that she “never liked” her “voice that much. If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn’t get my choice. I got my mother’s voice.”

Cher’s reaction to hearing the fake song was similar to Gomez’s, who recently called it “scary” after hearing an AI-generated cover version of a 2016 song by her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd called “Starboy.”

The clip featured the fake Gomez voice singing the song with a message translated from Turkish that read, “How did you find Selena’s viral cover of Starboy voiced with artificial intelligence?”

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” star replied simply, “Scary.”
