In a major break with tradition, the Oscars will leave ABC, its broadcast home since 1976, and move to YouTube in 2029 as the Academy tries to court younger and more global audiences.
The Wednesday announcement surprised the entertainment industry and marked a turning point in how people consume content and how they will continue to do so. Disney-owned ABC will continue to air the show until its 100th anniversary in 2028, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/oscars-bolt-from-abc-to-youtube-starting-in-2029-1236453188/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
YouTube will stream the Academy Awards ceremony and related content on its platform, which boasts two billion users worldwide. This includes red-carpet pre-shows, behind-the-scenes footage, nominee announcements, and the Governors Awards, where honorary Oscars are presented.
Neal Mohan, CEO of the streaming giant, said in a statement Wednesday: “The Oscars are one of our essential cultural institutions, honoring excellence in storytelling and artistry. Partnering with the Academy to bring this celebration of art and entertainment to viewers all over the world will inspire a new generation of creativity and film lovers while staying true to the Oscars’ storied legacy.”

ABC also issued a statement, saying, “ABC has been the proud home to The Oscars for more than half a century. We look forward to the next three telecasts, including the show’s centennial celebration in 2028, and wish the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences continued success.”
The Oscars have suffered a steep, decades-long ratings decline, exacerbated by a major drop during the pandemic, with only occasional minor upticks since. Viewership was up 1% this year, reaching 19.7 million viewers. 
While this year’s host, Conan O’Brien, mostly steered clear of politics, the Oscars are known for being a leftist lovefest, which has drawn criticism from the potential audience. This includes the show itself and the projects that get nominated. O’Brien was invited back to host in 2026.
This year, the anti-Israel film “No Other Land” won Best Documentary Feature. Daily Wire podcast host Matt Walsh had his runaway hit documentary, “Am I Racist?” snubbed by the Academy in 2024 despite its massive popularity and cultural impact.

The controversial Netflix series “Boots,” about a gay Marine, was canceled after just one season on the streaming platform.
Deadline <a href="https://deadline.com/2025/12/boots-canceled-netflix-the-pink-marine-miles-heizer-1236649503/">reported</a> that the decision was not “straightforward” as it had good reviews from both critics and viewers. The outlet noted that Sony Pictures extended the options on several key actors in the hopes of continuing the series. Networks are usually unable to pick up anything canceled by Netflix due to exclusivity agreements. 
But in the end, it wasn’t enough. Producer Brent Miller said he was disappointed over the cancellation but was “so grateful that we were able to make the show,&#8221; adding that he &#8220;couldn’t be more proud of the show we made.”
In October, the Pentagon came out against the Netflix series, calling it “woke garbage.”
Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson released a statement on the series, saying a person’s sexuality is not relevant in this administration’s effort to strengthen our military.
“Under President Trump and Secretary [Pete] Hegseth, the U.S. military is getting back to restoring the warrior ethos. Our standards across the board are elite, uniform, and sex neutral because the weight of a rucksack or a human being doesn’t care if you’re a man, a woman, gay, or straight,” a statement from Wilson said, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/woke-garbage-pentagon-blasts-new-netflix-series-about-gay-marine">reported</a>.

Wilson confirmed that officials “will not compromise our standards to satisfy an ideological agenda, unlike Netflix whose leadership consistently produces and feeds woke garbage to their audience and children.”
“Boots,” which stars Miles Heizer and Vera Farmiga, premiered on October 9 and consistently ranked in Netflix’s top 10 viewed charts. The series is critical of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy from the 90s that required recruits to keep their sexual identity secret. The show is based on the book “The Pink Marine” by Greg Cope White.

Netflix Cancels Gay Military Series ‘Boots’ After One Season

A trailer for the upcoming documentary film “Melania,” based on the first lady, debuted today. The movie is scheduled for release in theaters on January 30.
The teaser highlights several behind-the-scenes moments in the days leading up to President Trump’s inauguration. “Here we go again,” Melania says in the opening moments of the trailer as she walks into the US Capitol on Inauguration Day.
At another point, the first lady answers the phone and says, “Hi, Mr. President. Congratulations,” as she looks out at the Manhattan skyline.
President Trump can be heard asking, “Did you watch it?”
“I did not. Yeah. I will see it on the news,” Melania replies. The trailer then cuts to a January photo shoot at the White House.
The short trailer also includes brief clips of the Trumps with White House staff, snapshots from Mar-a-Lago and Trump Tower, and the first lady laying a white lily by a tombstone.

Melania signed a multi-million-dollar deal with Amazon MGM Studios and is an executive producer of the project. It began filming in December 2024 and documents the 20 days around her return to the White House.
“Melania” is directed by Brett Ratner, who is best known for the “Rush Hour” franchise. 
The first lady previously <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/17/politics/melania-trump-documentary-trailer">mentioned</a> the inspiration for the documentary while accepting Fox Nation’s “Patriot of the Year” award.

‘Melania’ Documentary Trailer Promises Inside Look At The First Lady’s Return To The White House

A lengthy exposé highlighting the negative effects DEI has had on white males, in particular millennials, has gone mega viral on social media.
The Compact <a href="https://www.compactmag.com/article/the-lost-generation/">piece</a> “The Lost Generation” by Jacob Savage goes into detail about how white men have been discriminated against over the past decade, especially in the fields of entertainment and academia. The statistical truths laid out plainly have struck a chord with the general public, leading to the article being viewed on X more than 11 million times.

Savage, who tried to make it as a Hollywood writer, reported that in 2011, “white men were 48 percent of lower-level TV writers; by 2024, they accounted for just 11.9 percent.” He further noted that The Atlantic’s editorial staff “went from 53 percent male and 89 percent white in 2013 to 36 percent male and 66 percent white in 2024.” Also, “white men fell from 39 percent of tenure-track positions in the humanities at Harvard in 2014 to 18 percent in 2023.”
The author points to the death of George Floyd as a major turning point for industries that were already trying to “diversify.”
“In 2021, new hires at Condé Nast were just 25 percent male and 49 percent white; at the California Times, parent company of The Los Angeles Times and The San Diego Union-Tribune, they were just 39 percent male and 31 percent white. That year ProPublica hired 66 percent women and 58 percent people of color; at NPR, 78 percent of new hires were people of color,” he wrote.

A hiring manager told Savage, “For a typical job we’d get a couple hundred applications, probably at least 80 from white guys. It was a given that we weren’t gonna hire the best person. … It was jarring how we would talk about excluding white guys.”
White male writers have been kept out of other major outlets, too, including The New York Times and Buzzfeed. The article noted that Vox Media was 82 percent male and 88 percent white in 2013. By 2022, the company was just 37 percent male and 59 percent white, and by 2025 leadership was 73 percent female.
Savage said while the problem looks less stark in academia, he believes that Boomers are occupying all the tenure positions at elite institutions while millennial white men are being ignored for jobs they’re qualified for.
One notable statistic Savage found was that since 2022, Brown University “has hired forty-five tenure track professors in the humanities and social sciences. Just three were white American men (6.7 percent).”
The article points out similar situations in other industries, such as tech, publishing, and management. Savage notes how white men were pushed to crypto, podcasting, and Substack because “institutional barriers to entry didn’t exist” there.
His exposé was met with support and commiseration on social media.
“The phenomenon of white male dispossession strikes at the core of what’s been going on over the last decade,” one commenter <a href="https://x.com/l0m3z/status/2000976625585021212?s=43">wrote</a>. “Any politician, anyone with any ambition to influence, must take on this fight. The time is now.”
“Truly extraordinary,” <a href="https://x.com/l0m3z/status/2000976625585021212?s=43">said</a> another. “Impossible to fathom all that&#8217;s been lost.”
Some argued that Savage’s piece didn’t go far enough and that it placed too much blame on the established Boomers who were also subject to discrimination.

Exposé On Discrimination Against White Millennial Men Goes Viral, Inspires Outrage

“The Pendragon Cycle” is filled with strong, mythical characters, with one of the most quietly powerful figures being Taliesin. The bard who wields words as gracefully as a sword is played by James Arden, who gives life to the otherworldly yet undoubtedly human character in the epic tale. 
Arden told The Daily Wire that he was drawn to the character’s complexity and depth. “The fact that he&#8217;s a bard and a storyteller in a very kind of turbulent, violent world makes him already very unique,” he said.
Taliesin’s origin story sets the stage for that mystery. Viewers encounter him in a unique way early in the season. 
“He has no origin, you know, he&#8217;s just found on a riverbed, in a salmon weir,” Arden explained. He was raised like any other person but also had visions which became stories. “When he meets the Atlanteans, he can tell a story that I guess the rest of his people wouldn&#8217;t be able to do,” Arden said. “And by doing that … he has this kind of legendary, everyone-knows-who-he-is status.”
Arden was impressed by how the series creators were able to distill so much of Stephen R. Lawhead’s novel into a compelling, abridged story. 
“I&#8217;m amazed that they managed to turn it into a first season at all,” he said, noting that the first book alone could have filled multiple seasons. “They&#8217;ve done an amazing job of introducing Taliesin as a character without sacrificing the essence of who he is.”
Like some other “Pendragon” actors, Arden also mentioned the amazing sets as helping inspire his craft. The commitment to authenticity helped bring the legend to life, particularly the decision to shoot on location. “If you&#8217;re shooting in a forest, being able to feel the cold and feel the weather … it feels more organic and authentic,” he said. “You can just exist, and that&#8217;s a real gift.”

When asked about moments fans will remember long after the season ends, Arden pointed to a scene involving Taliesin and Charis being introduced as the Lady of the Lake. Filmed at night on a still, moonlit lake framed by hanging willows, the scene left a lasting impression. “If you like fantasy and you like the whimsy of a story, it&#8217;s everything that you could want in that moment,” he said. “It was just so magical.” 
Taliesin’s role as a spiritual archetype sets him apart from many of the show’s other characters. Arden describes him as “a towering figure of faith” whose purpose is rooted in compassion.

“His whole purpose in life is to be compassionate and warm and loving and kind,” he said. That clarity of virtue made the role surprisingly accessible. “Playing a good man who is fundamentally a good man in all of his values and virtues is quite easy,” Arden said. “You can just clear your mind.”
Though Taliesin is offered power, Arden says what defines him is restraint in the face of that choice. “He&#8217;s offered power and still decides not to,” he said. 
Off-screen, Arden describes a special camaraderie. The cast spent their first weeks together in Hungary training, riding horses, and learning to fight. “There was no ego,” he said. “It was just lovely actors wanting to create something really cool and sink into this beautiful fantasy world.” 
Not every memory was glamorous, however. Arden revealed several mishaps including a learning curve with riding horses, freezing shoots in the lake, and a misfortune involving a stirrup and “an area that I wouldn&#8217;t want a stirrup to swing towards.” 
Still, he wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. “Even though you might think, ‘Oh God, what a difficult day,’” Arden said, “It was just amazing because you&#8217;re surrounded by people who are lovely and warm and who care about the story.”
For Arden, Taliesin represents something rare in modern fantasy: a hero who shows his strength through gentleness and restraint. “His only motive is to create a world of peace and love … I think that&#8217;s pretty cool.”

The former doctor who pleaded guilty to one charge in connection with the overdose death of actor Matthew Perry has been sentenced to home detention, per multiple reports.
Mark Chavez pleaded guilty in 2024 to one count of conspiring to distribute ketamine to the “Friends” star. Chavez was sentenced to 8 months of home detention and 3 years of supervised release on Tuesday. He will also be required to complete 300 hours of community service, per <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/2nd-doctor-sentenced-connection-matthew-perrys-ketamine-death/story?id=128425192">ABC News</a>. The sentence could have been up to 10 years in prison.
Chavez’s attorney Zach Brooks described his client’s actions as “a lapse in judgment during a narrow and isolated time.”
“[W]hat occurred in this case was a profound departure from the life he had lived up to that point. The consequences have been severe and permanent. Mr. Chavez has lost his career, his livelihood, and professional identity that he has worked for decades to develop.”
“Looking forward, Mr. Chavez understands that accountability does not end with this sentence. He’s committed to using the rest of his life to contribute positively, to support others and to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again,” Brooks added. “While he cannot undo what occurred, he can choose how he lives his life from this moment.”

Perry was found face down in his hot tub on October 28, 2023, at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office determined he had drowned, but attributed his death to ketamine, which Perry had been taking as part of a therapy. The levels of ketamine found in his system were so high that they were close to the range that would be used for general anesthesia during surgery.
Chavez, formerly a licensed physician in San Diego operating a ketamine clinic, was one of five people charged in connection with Perry’s death. Prosecutors alleged that he provided Perry the drugs secondhand by way of another doctor, Salvador Plasencia, who was sentenced to 30 months in prison earlier this month.
In the weeks after the “Friends” star died, it was revealed that Plasencia allegedly texted Chavez, saying, “I wonder how much this moron will pay.” Plasencia supplied Perry with 20 vials of ketamine, equal to 2,000 mg of the drug, along with ketamine lozenges and syringes in the month before his death, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ketamine-queen-will-plead-guilty-in-matthew-perry-overdose-case">reported</a>.
