Notes taken by Dr. Dawn Hughes from meetings with Amber Heard were shown to the court Wednesday, revealing more details into the actress’ relationships with actor James Franco and tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp has in the past accused the “Aquaman” star of being unfaithful during their marriage, cheating on him with both Franco and Musk.
Hughes, a forensic and clinical psychologist called to testify as an expert witness by Heard’s team, made notes about both Franco and Musk under a section titled “Intimate relationships.”
Referring to Franco by his initials, “JF,” Hughes tied Heard and Franco with the date “Dec. 2015,” which was during Heard and Depp’s marriage.
“JF- friends – got close – but really wanted to be [with] Johnny,” one note said.
In a note on “Elon,” a reference to Musk, Hughes wrote that the pair met at the Met Ball in May 2016. The Met Ball that year was held on May 2. Heard filed for divorce against Depp on May 23, 2016.
“Elon – May 2016 – met then, Met Ball,” a note from Hughes said, adding, “dated after Johnny.”
“I was heartbroken, my soul felt nothing then,” a note under “Elon” said. “Ended March 2018.”
Notably, the expert witness, who has never treated Heard as a patient and first met with the actress in September 2019, said she “drew a line” to separate notes on Franco and Musk. An attorney for Depp questioned Hughes on why she did not have a new heading if the men’s names did not belong under “Intimate relationships,” as she suggested. Hughes, again, referenced the “line.”
During more questioning from Depp’s legal team, Hughes was asked, “Did Ms. Heard ever tell you James Franco spent the night with her?”
“I did recall that she did see him at some point, but I don’t know if he spent the night,” Hughes responded.
Asked about Elon spending the night, Hughes answered, “I don’t know.”

Surveillance footage shown before a London court in 2020, when Depp was suing The Sun for libel, shows Heard getting cuddly with Franco in a private elevator on May 22, 2016. The elevator was en route to Depp’s Los Angeles penthouse, a home he shared with Heard at the time.
“I don’t recall, but it’s highly likely,” Depp said this month, asked if he had a fight with Heard about Franco. The 58-year-old answered in the affirmative when he was asked if he suspected Heard cheating with the “Pineapple Express” actor.
Heard met Franco down in reception at 11 p.m. and brought him up to the penthouse, the actress acknowledged. Referring to the time of night she was with Franco, Heard said she wasn’t sleeping much those days.
The Daily Wire reported that Depp last week testified that Heard cheated on him with Musk beginning one month after their wedding.
“Court documents allege that Musk visited Depp’s penthouse ‘late at night’ while the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor was not at home,” Amanda Harding reported. “The 50-year-old Tesla founder was also given parking garage access, Fox reported.”
“Musk’s first appearance in Mr. Depp’s penthouse occurred shortly after Ms. Heard threw a vodka bottle at Mr. Depp in Australia, when she learned that Mr. Depp wanted the couple to enter into a post-nuptial agreement concerning assets in their marriage. Ms. Heard’s violently aimed projectile virtually severed Mr. Depp’s middle finger on his right hand and shattered the bones,” court documents said.
A representative for Musk has denied the pair’s relationship overlapping with her marriage to Depp.
“Elon and Amber didn’t start seeing each other until May 2016, and even then it was infrequent. Their relationship didn’t become romantic until some time later,” the statement said, Vanity Fair reported.
