The NFL announced Tuesday that the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals game had been postponed indefinitely after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during a game on Monday night.

In a statement, the league said the final weekend of regular season games would not be adjusted and that the game between the Bills and Bengals would not be “resumed this week.”

“The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date,” the statement said, adding that the league had been in discussions with the players’ union.

The Bengals will still host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, The New York Times reported. The Bills are currently set to play the New England Patriots on Sunday in Buffalo.

During Monday Night’s game in Cincinnati between the Bengals and Bills, Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest when he collapsed on the field during the first quarter after tackling Bengals wideout Tee Higgins. Emergency personnel administered CPR before he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The Bills’ organization later released a statement that the safety suffered a “cardiac arrest.”

“His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment,” the statement said.

On Tuesday, Hamlin’s family expressed their “sincere gratitude” for “the love and support shown.”

“We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans around the country,” it added.

“We also want to acknowledge the dedicated first responders and healthcare professionals at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who have provided exceptional care to Damar,” the statement continued. “We feel so blessed to be a part of the Buffalo Bills organization and to have their support. We also want to thank Coach Taylor and the Bengals for everything they’ve done.”

The family closed out their statement by continuing to call for prayers for Damar and promised to release updates as soon as they have them.
