WALSH: This New Biden Ad For Black Voters Would Be Called Patronizing & Racist If Trump Released It

There is often reason to cringe when white politicians make clumsy attempts at minority outreach. But rarely has the cringe been taken to this level.

A new ad from the Biden campaign, titled “Ultimate Rap League GOTV Battle Rap,” begins with two black men meeting on a basketball court in the inner city before launching into a political debate in the form of freestyle battle raps. The lyrics aren’t great but that’s no knock on the rappers. It can’t be easy to turn Joe Biden’s policy proposals into compelling rap lyrics. Joe Biden’s policy proposals don’t even make for compelling policy proposals.

Here’s a brief sample:

We always telling each other to stay woke/That’s why this time we gotta use our voice and you have to vote/The facts should show Biden has a plan for African Americans/We not dealing with no average Joe… You see I did my research/Biden and Harris planning to put 70 billion to the HBCU… Biden and Harris got a plan to outlaw the chokehold/It’s inspiring

Never mind that putting 70 billion dollars into historically black colleges is absurd, and that the President of the United States shouldn’t be in the business of outlawing police tactics he doesn’t like. The issue here is that an ad of this kind from Donald Trump would surely provoke condemnation from leftists who would call it patronizing, exploitative, and racist. “Why are the black men rapping in a basketball court instead of discussing the issue in a corner office of a Fortune 500 company?” would be the critique.

But this is what we get from the Democrat Party. Americans are divided into different groups, spoken to in different ways, and given their own special policies and agendas. Biden’s campaign website makes this explicitly clear.  Under the “Joe’s vision for America” tab, there is instead a vision for each subgroup individually.

There’s Joe Biden’s Agenda For The Black Community, Joe Biden’s Agenda For The Asian American And Pacific Islander Community, Joe Biden’s Agenda For Women, Joe Biden’s Agenda For The Indian American Community, Joe Biden’s Agenda For Muslim American Communities, Joe Biden’s Agenda For The Latino Community, Joe Biden’s Agenda For the Jewish Community, The Biden-Harris Plan For Tribal Nations, Joe Biden’s Agenda For The Catholic Community, as well as plans for LGBT people, rural Americans, older Americans, and various other demographic categories. Notably, there was no specific plan for the demisexual polygamist community, which is an oversight that speaks to Biden’s implicit bigotries, I’m sure.

But do all of these other groups need separate agendas? Shouldn’t the president have policies that address all Americans equally? What is it that a black American or Muslim American might want and should receive from his government that an Asian American or White American would not want or should not receive? Different communities might struggle in different areas, broadly speaking, but we are all supposed to be seen as equal under the law.

I can speak to this as a member of one of the special groups in Biden’s segregated plan. He doesn’t have an agenda for white Americans — that would be, of course, racist, even though it isn’t racist to have special plans for any other race — but he does have one for Catholics. His plan for the Catholic Community, of which I am a part, includes respecting the dignity of workers and building a strong economy. Why are these Catholic issues? Biden’s agenda for black Americans includes supporting education and ending violence against women. Why are those black issues? Black people are interested in education, just as Catholics are interested in dignity, but neither group has an exclusive interest in either issue.

This, again, is what Democrats do. They break us into different groups, speak to us in different ways, give us different issues and different policies, and then go off to give speeches about unity.
