On Monday, NBC anchor Matt Lauer revealed just how much he adores the team of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, revealing he wept while watching Obama bestow the presidential Medal of Freedom on Biden on Sunday.
Before Lauer made his bathetic confession, NBC reporter intoned:
&#8220;It&#8217;s a bond like we&#8217;ve never seen before. At times, more like a White House buddy movie than a political partnership, their friendship often reaching a fever pitch on social media; Biden tweeting a photo of a friendship bracelet on the president&#8217;s birthday: &#8220;Happy 55th, Barack. A brother to me, a best friend forever.&#8221;
Lauer then dripped the emotional syrup: &#8220;So I&#8217;m glad there were no cameras in my apartment yesterday; &#8216;cause I was sitting there just weeping; I just burst out crying when I saw that moment; it was incredible.&#8221;
Lauer <a href="http://dailycaller.com/2014/11/06/matt-lauer-is-angry-that-you-didnt-vote-democrat-america/">ripped</a> the GOP after the November election, snapping, &#8220;Opposing the president&#8217;s policy is not a policy.&#8221; On the other hand, he was <a href="https://www.earnthenecklace.com/is-the-today-show-host-matt-lauer-democrat-or-republican/">slammed</a> after the Commander-in-Chief forum he hosted with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton for asking her consistent questions about her email scandal but not challenging Trump when he said he had opposed the war in Iraq.
Whether Lauer is partisan one way or the other isn&#8217;t even the central point; what is obnoxious is his attempt to manipulate viewers with his emotionally lachrymose statements.

NBC’s Lauer Wept When Obama Honored Biden

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley harshly condemned supporters of men playing in women’s sports, calling them “stupid.”
Barkley made his comments speaking with Dan Dakich on Outkick’s “Don’t @ Me.” Dakich asked about rumors that Nike had funded a so-called &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; study.
“Did you see this? I don’t know if you saw this,” Dakich said. “Nike’s been really good to me; Nike would take me on trips, I’d make some money, but they’re helping fund a gender-affirming care study on young boys with the goal is impairing (sic) boys to be able to come down, to participate against women. Have you seen this thing?”
“I have not, but I’m gonna make this very simple for you, Dan. Men should not play sports against women,” Barkley answered. “I’m not gonna get into all the bulls*** that’s going on out here in the world today.”
“You know, it’s interesting; I always sit back and look at stuff. And let me tell you something: I love gay people; I love transgender people. I’m against any form of discrimination, period. &#8230; I love my gay friends; I love my transgender friends. But, I’m not gonna get into all this stuff that’s going around, men should not play sports against women. If anybody thinks that, I think they’re stupid. I support the gay community 100%. I support the transgender community 100%. But I do not, under any circumstances … think that men should play sports against women. If anybody has a problem with that, they’re gonna have to get over it because I’m not gonna change. I just think it’s wrong, period.”
“I’m never gonna think it’s all right for men to play sports against women. I don’t even think that’s controversial,” he continued. “I don’t wanna hear you try to explain it to me. No, no, no, I don’t wanna hear it. I’m not gonna argue with you. Men shouldn’t play sports against women. I’m done. Don’t try to tell me this, or this, or this, period.”
The study supposedly funded by Nike was referred to in a recent New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/magazine/trans-athletes-women-college-sports.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> that mentioned Joanna Harper, a man who identifies as a transgender woman who is also a PhD researcher at Loughborough University in England. The Times stated:

Harper is currently helping to lead an ambitious study of trans adolescents that measures their results on a 10-step fitness test before they start hormone therapy and then, after they have begun to medically transition, every six months for five years. But, she told me when we talked in February, “the current climate makes the study somewhat uncertain.” I assumed she was referring to the Trump administration’s cuts to National Institutes of Health research grants, but she said money was not a problem: The study is being funded by Nike.

“I don’t even think anybody knows who they are as a young kid. So I think we have to be very careful because you don’t want to put kids in a disadvantageous situation, because, hey, when you get older, you can make your own decision,” Barkley said. “I think we have to be very careful screwing around with kids because they’re not fully developed as a person.”

Charles Barkley Dunks On Supporters Of Men In Women’s Sports: ‘They’re Stupid’

Former Supreme Court Justice David Souter, who was nominated to the court by GOP President George H. W. Bush in 1990, then sided with leftist judges in some critical cases, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/09/supreme-court-david-souter-dies.html">died</a> at his home in New Hampshire on Thursday. He was 85.
Souter, a lifelong bachelor, was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in England and graduated from Harvard Law School before eventually becoming Attorney General of New Hampshire.
“Bush’s chief of staff assured Republicans that the pick would be a ‘home run for conservatives’ who were on the brink of a significant remaking of the court. But the nominee proved to be anything but,” The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/obituaries/2025/05/09/david-souter-supreme-court-justice-dead/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>. “In nearly two decades on the court, Justice Souter was a reliable vote for the liberal side of the bench in cases involving affirmative action, gay rights, separation of church and state, and restriction of the death penalty.”
Although he was nominated by a Republican, Souter may have given a hint that he would not stick to an originalist view of the Constitution during his confirmation hearings. Asked about Griswold v. Connecticut —the case in which a &#8220;right to privacy&#8221; was enshrined by the court, arguing it was derived from penumbras of other explicitly stated constitutional protections — Souter <a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=mvV0cVeWVmUC&amp;q=david+souter+%22home+run%22#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that the “due process clause &#8230; does recognize and does protect an unenumerated right to privacy.” He later stated that the Constitution’s “concept of limited government” was “not to simply be identified with the enumeration of those specific rights or specifically defined rights that were later embodied in the &#8216;Bill of Rights.'&#8221;
The ”right to privacy” was extended by the Supreme Court in the cases <a href="https://www.oyez.org/cases/1971/70-17" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eisenstadt v. Baird </a>(1971), <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/roe_v._wade_%281973%29" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Roe v. Wade </a>(1973) and <a href="https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/539/558/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lawrence v. Texas </a>(2003), affirming the nationwide right to abortions as well as ultimately leading to Obergefell v. Hodges (2015), in which the Supreme Court affirmed the right of same-sex couples to marry.
Two years after he started serving on the Supreme Court, Souter joined Justices Anthony M. Kennedy and Sandra Day O&#8217;Connor to reaffirm a woman’s constitutional right to have an abortion, arguing that to reverse the basis of Roe v. Wade would appear to be a “surrender to political pressure. . . . So to overrule under fire in the absence of the most compelling reason to re-examine a watershed decision would subvert the court’s legitimacy beyond any serious question.”
Souter joined the majority opinion in 1992′s <a href="https://www.oyez.org/cases/1991/91-744" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Planned Parenthood v. Casey</a>, upholding the federal constitutional right to abortion established by Roe v. Wade.
Constitutional scholar John O. McGinnis contended, “Souter will be known wholly for doing the unexpected by becoming one of the most liberal justices on the court. . . . He leaves no independent jurisprudential mark and not a single memorable phrase in an opinion of which he was the acknowledged author.”
Souter retired in 2009 at the relatively young age of 69, permitting former President Barack Obama to replace him with leftist Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Retired Supreme Court Justice David Souter, Who Vexed Conservatives, Dies At 85

On Friday, the day after he was elected as the first pope from the United States, Pope Leo XIV told cardinals that he intended to correct the notion that Jesus Christ was simply a “charismatic leader or superman.”
As he celebrated his first Mass in the Sistine Chapel, Leo also opined that many people across the world consider the Christian faith “absurd,” the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/vatican-pope-prevost-leo-cardinals-1c1752bacc935c02af5f839a05de9a39" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“This is true not only among non-believers but also among many baptized Christians, who thus end up living, at this level, in a state of practical atheism,” he stated. “Yet, precisely for this reason, they are the places where our missionary outreach is desperately needed. A lack of faith is often tragically accompanied by the loss of meaning in life, the neglect of mercy, appalling violations of human dignity, the crisis of the family and so many other wounds that afflict our society.”
Leo, who helped Pope Francis implement a change whereby women were added to the voting committee that decided which nominations for bishops should be sent to the pope, also saw that two women delivered the Scripture readings at the start of the Mass on Friday.
Leo is scheduled to deliver a noon blessing from the loggia of St. Peter’s on Sunday and speak with the media on Monday, according to Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.
His first foreign trip could be at the end of the month as Pope Francis had been invited to travel to Turkey to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, the Associated Press reported. That Council largely revolved around the debate over Arianism, the Christological position that Jesus was created by God. At the time, Arianism was popular in much of the Roman Empire. The Council, convened by the Roman emperor Constantine, declared Arianism as heresy.

New Pope Leo Celebrates First Mass: Jesus Was Not Just A ‘Charismatic Leader Or Superman’

The FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albany, New York, have reportedly begun a formal criminal investigation into the real estate and mortgage transactions of New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James.
Last month, William J. Pulte, director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency, sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi alleging that James might have “falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms.” He said James had “potentially included … falsifying residence status for a Norfolk, Virginia-based home in order to secure a lower mortgage rate and … misrepresenting property descriptions to meet stringent requirements for government backed loans and government assistance.” He pointed out, “Primary residence mortgages receive more favorable loan terms, including lower interest rates, than secondary residence mortgages.”
Two weeks ago, James’ attorney, Abbe Lowell, wrote a <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25913822-nyag-james-letter-to-ag-bondi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Bondi, stating, “I write to address the latest act of improper political retribution—this time directed at Ms. James—publicly instigated and endorsed by President Trump&#8230;. This so-called ‘Criminal Referral,’ which recycles long-disproven allegations and is ‘[b]ased on media reports’ lacks any credible foundation.”
“Mr. Trump has singled out Attorney General James dating back to her campaign in 2018, and ever more so during and after the trial and verdict in New York in which Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization were found liable for financial fraud and assessed a $454 million judgment,” Lowell claimed.
Lowell referred to what he called “baseless allegations,” saying:

In 1983, James, then a recent college graduate, bought a Queens residence with her father, with some documents listing her as his “wife.’
“He asked his daughter (then a few years out of school) to help by allowing him to add her name to the mortgage application,” Lowell argued. “Mr. James filled out the mortgage material (wherein he described their relationship as being ‘spouses’) and purchased the home without his daughter’s involvement.”
“However, James, then 24 and a college graduate, signed the notarized mortgage, along with her father, on one of the document’s three pages that listed her as his ‘wife,’” the Times-Union <a href="https://www.timesunion.com/capitol/article/fbi-opens-formal-investigation-ny-attorney-20316868.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. “One of those references to her being her father’s ‘wife’ was just below her signature. Lending experts consulted by the Times Union said that by listing themselves as husband and wife, the pair may have qualified for a loan — or received better borrowing terms — than had they not been considered a couple due to income requirements.”
James led a prosecutorial effort to investigate Trump’s business dealings, which ended with a judge ordering him, his two sons, and a Trump company official to pay more than $360 million.

FBI Officially Launches Probe Into New York’s Letitia James

On Thursday morning, the day after the Federal Reserve voted to leave the benchmark interest rate between 4.25% and 4.5%, President Donald Trump targeted Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, calling him a “fool who doesn’t have a clue” while adding, “I like him very much!”
“‘Too Late’ Jerome Powell is a FOOL, who doesn’t have a clue. Other than that, I like him very much! Oil and Energy way down, almost all costs (groceries and ‘eggs’) down, virtually NO INFLATION, Tariff Money Pouring Into the U.S. — THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF ‘TOO LATE!’ ENJOY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Fed stated that it doesn’t want to lower interest rates until economic forecasts — which have been in the doldrums since Trump announced his tariff policy — become brighter, adding that the “risks of higher unemployment and higher inflation have risen,” CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/08/trump-calls-fed-chair-jerome-powell-a-fool-after-central-bank-keeps-rates-steady.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.

In February 2024, Trump said he would not reappoint Powell, whose term ends in May 2026, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/02/economy/trump-reappoint-fed-chair-jerome-powell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">telling</a> Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo, “It looks to me like he’s trying to lower interest rates for the sake of maybe getting people elected, I don’t know. In mid-April, Powell <a href="https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/who-appoints-fed-chair-and-can-trump-fire-jerome-powell-what-to-know/3724729/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Economic Club of Chicago, &#8220;For the time being, we are well positioned to wait for greater clarity&#8221; on the impact of Trump’s policy changes. It’s already late. But he should lower interest rates.”
When host Kristen Welker asked if he would rule out removing Powell, Trump replied, “I get to change him very quickly anyway.”
“You don’t have plans to remove him before 2026 when his time’s up?” Welker pressed.
“No, no, no. That was a total — why would I do that? I get to replace the person in another short period of time,” Trump answered.

Fed Says It Won’t Lower Interest Rates. Trump Calls Powell A ‘Fool Who Doesn’t Have A Clue.’

On Wednesday, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who has been the leader in Congress grilling university presidents about their failure to confront antisemitism on campus, took apart Haverford College President Wendy Raymond, who consistently evaded giving direct answers and referred to a cheat sheet she brought with her.

Stefanik asked about a statement from a student group on Haverford’s campus which called for the “complete dismantling of the apartheid settler colonial state of Israel by all means necessary,” asking, “What does ‘by all means necessary’ mean to you?&#8221;
Raymond answered with a quote from her cheat sheet, replying, “Invoking that kind of terminology is repugnant.”
When Stefanik asked if any disciplinary action was taken, there was a long pause before Raymond started to repeat, “Those kinds of statements are” — then looked at her notes.
“I’m not asking you if they’re repugnant; I’m asking about the disciplinary action,” Stefanik stated. “You were the one university president who failed to lay out if any disciplinary action has been taken, if any suspension or expulsions. So I am asking you: Was there any disciplinary action taken?”
“Disciplinary action can include expulsion and —,” Raymond began.
“I’m not asking what it can include; I’m asking, was it taken?” Stefanik pressed.
“I will not be talking about individual cases here,” Raymond dodged.
Stefanik asked about a professor who had said in the wake of the murderous Hamas massacre of more than 1200 people in Israel on October 7, 2023, “We should never have to apologize for celebrating these scenes of an imprisoned people breaking free from their chains. This was a historic moment to be recorded in your history books.”
“Jewish students have reported that you said, ‘This post could be perceived in many ways.’ Does this post simply depend on the context President Raymond, and were there any disciplinary actions taken against this professor?” Stefanik asked.
“Such posts have been incredibly harmful to our entire community and I disavow them and that outcome for us,” Raymond said.
When Stefanik asked if the professor had been investigated, Raymond dodged again, prompting Stefanik to assert, “This is a simple question. The other presidents are answering this straightforward as to disciplinary action; again, these university presidents, who are former presidents, failed to answer these direct questions. In this case, was there disciplinary action taken or an investigation of this professor?”
“Respectfully, representative, I will not be talking about individual cases,” Raymond said loftily.
“Respectfully, President of Haverford, many people have sat in this position who are no longer in their positions as presidents of universities for their failure to answer straightforward questions,” Stefanik fired back.
After further attempts by Raymond to evade giving direct answers, Stefanik concluded, “For the American people watching, you still don’t get it. Haverford still doesn’t get it. It’s a very different testimony than the other presidents who are here today who are coming with specifics. So again this is completely unacceptable and it’s why this committee has stepped in, because higher education has failed to address the scourge of antisemitism putting Jewish students at risk at Haverford and at other campuses across the country.”

Another question I have, because this is a theme at Haverford: There was an administrator who said that “racial minority students have never felt safe at Haverford” and that “Jewish perspective students should not expect to feel safe and should instead be brave.” This was according to litigation against your college. Was there any investigation into this administrator for making those statements?
Raymond: That report does not reflect administrators that I know, who stand strongly with me and the entire college against antisemitism.
Stefanik: So that didn’t happen is your position? Was that statement not made by that administrator?
Raymond: That statement does not comport with those administrators that I know.
Stefanik: I’m not asking if it comports with the administrators that you know. I’m saying, is it your testimony that statement did not happen even though it’s coming out in litigation? So are you saying it did not happen.
Raymond: What I am saying is that I cannot imagine that happening from those colleagues of mine.
Stefanik: Let me ask you: If it did happen, what disciplinary action would Haverford take against that administrator.
Raymond: We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment or bias.
Stefanik: And what does that mean, “not tolerate”? Does that mean suspension, firing of that individual, what does that mean?
Raymond: It means following all of our policies which begin with investigation and then can lead to any of the aspects that you listed.
Stefanik: For the American people watching, you still don’t get it. Haverford still doesn’t get it. It’s a very different testimony than the other presidents who are here today who are coming with specifics. So again this is completely unacceptable and it’s why this committee has stepped in, because higher education has failed to address the scourge of antisemitism putting Jewish students at risk at Haverford and at other campuses across the country.
