Retired NFL quarterback Philip Rivers and his wife are celebrating the miracle of life once again — for a tenth time, actually.
The 8-time pro-bowl pick and his wife Tiffany welcomed baby number ten, a son named Andrew Joseph Rivers, earlier this month.
“It’s awesome. Tiffany is awesome,” Rivers told AL.com. “It doesn’t matter if it’s the first child or the 10th child. It’s an awesome miracle every time. Everyone is home now, and everyone is good.”
Rivers, a practicing Catholic, said both his mother and father come from large families. “We thought we would be the third generation of nine, but we decided to go double digits – or I should say we didn’t decide it. God decided,” the former QB said.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2021, Rivers has taken on the role as a high school football coach, following in the footsteps of his own father. One of Rivers’ sons, Gunner, is just a freshman, but the starting QB at the school, St. Michael Catholic High.
Baby Andrew waited until the team’s off week to be born, Rivers quipped.
“We pulled into Volanta Park about 6 p.m. and Tiff called and said things were picking up,” he recalled, referring to a game. “I’m like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.’ About 6:50, she called and said everything was good, and we got through the game.”
“We are thankful and blessed,” he said. “I’m thankful it happened during our off week. I guess [Andrew] knew we had to get past T.R. Miller.”
Rivers is loving coaching high school ball, saying during the interview that he has no plans on leaving for a higher level.
“I think I would have gone right into it had that been what I wanted to do. But really, I’ve longed to coach my boys and these other 15-18 year-old boys since I was 25,” he said. “I’m good right here.”

Though, playing in the NFL was his “childhood dream,” the QB said in his retirement speech, which notably referenced his Christian faith and God.
“Every year, January 20th is a special and emotional day. It is St. Sebastian’s Feast day, the day I played in the AFC championship without an ACL, and now the day that after 17 seasons, I’m announcing my retirement from the National Football League,” the athlete said at the time. “Thank you, God, for allowing me to live out my childhood dream of playing quarterback in the NFL.”
Rivers spoke openly about his faith during his NFL career. In 2017, for example, he discussed how he made his faith his “own” when he went away to college.
“My faith has always been very important to me,” he said. “When I went to college is really when it became my own. I had to get up out of that dorm room and go to church, go to mass on Sunday. That’s when I took ownership of my faith.”
“I think that the center of our marriage and the foundation of our relationship was on Jesus,” Rivers continued. “That is why it’s worked to this point.”
“I hope that God has used me to touch one of you in your faith journey with Jesus,” he added.
