Dr. Oz’s Campaign Gives Fetterman Some Free Medical Advice
After enduring weeks of relentless meme barrages from Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman, the campaign of Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz fired back with a taunt of its own: mocking Fetterman’s poor health. “If John Fetterman had ever eaten a vegetable in his life, then maybe he wouldn’t have had a major stroke and wouldn’t be in the position of having to lie about it constantly,” Oz campaign communications adviser Rachel Tripp told Business Insider.
The comment comes after Fetterman taunted Oz for using the term “crudite” in a campaign video instead of the more commonplace “veggie tray.”
For his part, Fetterman has argued that Oz is out-of-touch due to his wealth and longtime residence in New Jersey, while Oz and other Republicans — including Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro — have noted that Fetterman has never held private sector employment and received an allowance from his parents into his 40s.
Michigan’s Tudor Dixon Chooses Her Lieutenant Governor, But It’s Not A Straightforward Path
Michigan Republican governor nominee Tudor Dixon has picked Shane Hernandez, a 40-year-old former member of the Michigan House of Representatives, to be her lieutenant governor.
However, Ralph Rebandt, who lost to Dixon in the GOP primary, announced his bid to challenge Hernandez for the nomination.
A Rebandt nomination seems unlikely as many in the party, including former President Donald Trump, endorsed Dixon’s pick. Delegates will choose the nominee at the Michigan GOP’s nominating convention on Saturday.
Wolverine State’s Failed GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Says He’s Not Supporting Tudor Dixon
Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig isn’t impressed with who Republicans chose to run against Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI). Craig was the favorite to win the nomination himself until he was disqualified from the Republican primary election after fraudulent signatures were found on his ballot petitions.
The former police chief told Hour Detroit Monday that he’s not supporting Dixon, in part, because he thinks she goes too far on abortion. “At this point, I’m not supporting Tudor Dixon and I’m not supporting Governor Whitmer,” he said.
Sparks Fly Among New Hampshire Republicans, Hassan Toes Party Line
After years of hedging and repeatedly refusing to say what she thinks of taxpayer-funded college debt forgiveness, Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) stuck by President Biden and her party on Wednesday and said she’s for it. The vulnerable Democratic New Hampshire senator called Biden’s controversial student loan forgiveness plan a “balanced compromise.” She added that she does not support canceling all student debt.
Hassan was skewered by her Republican challengers, including frontrunner Don Bolduc, over her support for Biden’s plan. The former general said Hassan’s votes have “piled an astounding $1.3 trillion dollars in government spending in the last month alone.”
New Hampshire State Senate President Chuck Morse, also running against Hassan, called her support for the plan a “costly inflationary gimmick in her desperate attempt to get re-elected.”
Meanwhile, Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) took a shot at fellow Republican Bolduc last week, calling him a “conspiracy-theory extremist” and “not a serious candidate.” Sununu was expected to run for Senate as the favorite Republican against Hassan but did not.
Republican Colorado Senate Candidate Wants Abortion Balance
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) released an ad about Republican candidate Joe O’Dea’s views on abortion, pushing O’Dea to discuss his views more. O’Dea is in support of abortion in early pregnancy, and now stated he would ban abortions other than those for rape, incest, or medical need, after 20 or 22 weeks gestation.
“Abortion is one of these issues tearing this country apart,” O’Dea said in a statement to Axios Denver. “We have to find a balance so we can start the long process of moving the country forward and give women certainty.”
In an emailed press release, O’Dea said, “This is exactly what desperate politicians do to cling to power. I believe we need balance. I want to move the country forward. I opposed the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade and in the Senate I would vote to codify a woman’s right to choose early in the pregnancy and in cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother.”
Democrat Raises More Money In North Carolina Senate Race, But Behind In Poll
Democratic candidate Cheri Beasley has raised almost twice as much money as Republican candidate Representative Ted Budd in the North Carolina Senate race, according to The Mountaineer’s reporting on FEC reports. However, a Trafalgar Group poll released in July has Budd at 48% of likely voters, with Beasley coming in at 45%. In the poll, 3% were undecided and it had a margin of error of almost three percentage points.
Democratic Nominee Doesn’t Look Likely To Debate Arizona GOP Gubernatorial Candidate
Katie Hobbs, the Democratic candidate to be the next governor of Arizona, is under pressure to agree to debate her Republican opponent. Hobbs is saying she won’t “engage in a circus that insults and embarrasses Arizonans.”
Republican candidate Kari Lake is making hay off Hobbs’ reticence, taunting Hobbs openly.
“If Hobbs thinks she can spend the next 11 weeks hiding in her basement from her radical liberal record that’s way out of step with Arizona, she has another thing coming,” Lake said in a statement last week.
